The Los Angeles Angels have been crushing the baseball on the road in July, which we'll bet will lead to a series-opening victory over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night.

Firing on all cylinders
Los Angeles is a season high 22 games over .500, which has led directly to sitting atop the American League Wild Card standings, as it prepares to hit the road after putting together a 6-4 homestand.

The Angels’ bullpen has been tremendous over the past 34 games, especially on the backend with Kevin Jepsen, Joe Smith and Huston Street, as the group as a whole has compiled a 2.53 ERA over that span.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the club is 31-20 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125, with the UNDER going 28-21-2 in that situation.

Winning the close ones
Baltimore returns home after a 6-4 road trip, with seven of the games being decided by two runs or less, which is important to consider when looking over the MLB betting odds Tuesday.

The Orioles received some splendid work from their rotation over that period of time, with the group putting together a 2.94 ERA versus the Seattle Mariners, Angels and Oakland Athletics.

MLB handicappers need to be aware that outfielder Nelson Cruz is just 15 for 69 (.217) in his career against Weaver, and his 22 strikeouts are the most of any player against the former Long Beach State product.

Weaver
Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (11-6, 3.36 ERA) has led the team to seven consecutive victories, including a 3-2 home win over the Orioles last week—allowing two runs and six hits over eight frames.

The right-hander is 5-3 with a 4.45 ERA in nine road outings, as he’s served up 10 home runs in 54.2 combined innings.

In 11 lifetime games versus the Orioles, Weaver has registered a 7-4 record and 2.97 ERA, but he’s 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA in four outings at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Tillman
Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman (7-5, 3.92 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in matching up with Weaver in his last trip to the mound, as he surrendered just a single run and five hits over six innings of work.

The right-hander is 1-5 with a 2.89 ERA in nine home starts, with opposing hitters batting .243 against him (.249 on the road).

In three career appearances versus the Halos, Tillman has tallied a perfect 2-0 record and 1.74 ERA, including a win in his only home start on Aug. 14, 2009 (6.2 IP, 3 ER).

Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Angels as one of their MLB betting picks, as they’ve won six of seven road games this month—averaging 7.1 runs in those affairs.

Los Angeles will be led by outfielder Mike Trout in this matchup, considering he’s hitting .430 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs in his last 20 games away from Angel Stadium.
Pick:  Los Angeles Angels
