Read this informative article to see if we thnk if "over the total" is the way to go as we provide our MLB Picks of the Day and attempt to create a profit for the betting public.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants
We are only at June 12th, but this is a very important matchup as the San Francisco Giants (37-26) hold a 4 game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division and more importantly, there's a two game swing involved. If the Dodgers win this game, Giants divisional lead is trimmed to 3 games and if the Giants win, the lead has expanded to 5 games!

You can see the importance of this game, but the pitching matchup leaves a lot to be desired as veteran, Jake Peavy (2-6, 6.41 ERA) takes the to the rubber for the Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be sending out Julio Arias (0-1, 6.94 ERA). At just 19 years old, I don't know if Arias is ready for the spotlight of Sunday Night Baseball.

Maybe It's The Bat?
Buster Posey, who is a career .307 hitter, has been slumpng mightily at 8 HR, 28 RBI, and a .256 BA, but last night, he came through with a huge game ending RBI base hit in the 10th inning to give the Giants a 5-4 victory and keep that separation of a 4 game lead in the division.

It has been noted that Posey's bat had just been not doing the job, therefore he decided to switch bats. This has happened before for players and therir production has increased in a major way. While the Giants do have some very capable hitters in Brandon Belt (7 HR, 29 RBI, .298 BA), an injured Hunter Pence, and Brandon Crawford (6 HR, 33 RBI), the one thing missing in this lineup is "the old Buster Posey".

If Posey can improve to where he's been at for his entire career, San Francisco will be a tough team to beat as they have very capable pitching in Johnny Cueto and Madison Bumgarner. Tonight, the Giants face a weak and inexperienced pitcher in Julio Arias and it's mandatory that they pounce on this newbie, if you will. They live by the pitching, but Jake Peavy hasn't given them much to cheer about. Tonight, the bats need to do the talking.

For the Dodgers, Trayce Thompson, younger brother of Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, is a threat on the basepath, but the Dodgers will need big games from their two main hitters in Adrian Gonzalez (6 HR, 31 RBI, .284 BA, .366 OBP%) and Corey Seager (14 HR, 35 RBI, .285 BA). Seager has been the much better hitter, but Gonzo is coming off of a game in which he went deep. I'm going to stick with the Giants for my MLB Picks. I don't trust Arias and San Francisco has the momentum.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
We have a matchup between two poor teams and the betting total is up to 12.5! I don't really get affected by totals at Coors Field because the Rockies entire lineup can have a good 4 or 5 home runs in one game at Coors.

In this matchup, the Rockies are facing San Diego starter, Christian Freidrich and while Freidrich has had a really poor career, he's pitched well this season at 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA. For the Colorado Rockies (29-33), they're starting a 26 year old pitcher in Tyler Anderson, who has never made one pitch in the majors. To top it off, the Rockies, who are the better offensive team (especially at Coors Field) are a moderate betting favorite.

Coors Field can make good pitchers look bad occasionally, but I have a bit of confidence in Friedrich as he's climbed out of his hole and has shown some actual talent. Let's also not forget that San Diego isn't a potent offensive team. This game comes down to the Colorado Rockies offense where the betting total is concerned and Tyler Anderson is a big question mark.

In the two previous games in this series, both totals have been 12 runs or less with yesterday's game resulting in a 5-3 Colorado Rockies victory. That said, we also have to remember that the Rockies best pitcher, Tyler Chatwood, was pitching yesterday and this afternoon, we might see a bit of more offense.

Cargo and Charlie Blackmon
It always seems like when this tandem hits homers, the final score in the game is very high. While Blackmon bashed just his 7th home run of the season yesterday, Carlos Gonzalez has been a steady influence in this Rockies lineup behind Nolan Arenado. For the season, Cargo has 14 HR, 34 RBI, and a .303 BA. He's coming off of a game in which he went deep and had 4 ribbies.

So far this season, most of Cargo's damage has been done at Coors Field where he has 9 HR, 22 RBI, and a .321 BA . He's definitely a player to watch for in this game, but I don't have a ton of faith in the San Diego Padres as a team and the total of 12.5 is quite high in this instance. I'm going to double up and take the under the total offered by the MLB Odds as my bet.
