The Nationals and Dodgers met in the playoffs last year and could be matched up again this time around. Join us for a free MLB pick in the series opener tonight in Los Angeles.

Washington Nationals vs L.A. Dodgers

A potential glimpse into the National League playoffs is on the docket to begin Week 10 of the 2017 MLB campaign as the Washington Nationals close out a long swing through California with a stop in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. The series commences with a duel of southpaws on the mound, LA’s Hyun-Jin Ryu delivering the game’s first pitch at 10:10 PM (ET) and Gio Gonzalez following for Washington.

There wasn’t much movement on the money line in overnight trading, BetOnline still listing the Dodgers where they opened at -125. Likewise, the total remains at its initial 8 run mark.

Ryu Faces Nats For 1st Time In Career

The Nationals reach Tinseltown off a wild 11-10 win in Oakland on Sunday that helped them to a 2-1 series win vs. the Athletics. They had previously swept the Giants in San Francisco to begin the road trip. Gonzalez started and won the middle game of the set in San Fran, working into the seventh while allowing three runs to stop what had been a string of four consecutive Washington losses with him on the mound. His last appearance at Dodger Stadium was a bit rough (4.1 IP, 3 ER) in Game 3 of the NLDS last October, though the Nationals did win the game for their 4th-straight win over LA with Gonzalez on the hill.

The Dodgers are a half-game behind Colorado in the NL West after being blanked in Milwaukee on Sunday as -140 favorites on the MLB odds. The loss completed a 3-3 road trip that started in St. Louis and tonight’s tilt opens a 6-game homestand for the club. Ryu pitched well against the Cardinals last week, going six frames and allowing just one run, but didn’t get any support in a 2-1 setback. This will be Ryu’s first career appearance vs. the Nationals, Daniel Murphy the only batter with much experience against him (3-9).

Rivalry Info, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

The Dodgers have a decided edge against the Nats and former Expos all-time, and nearly a 2:1 advantage when the games are played in LA. That home field margin is nearly 3:1 in regular season matches since the Montreal franchise relocated to DC, winning 26 of the 35 games played at Dodger Stadium, including the last five on this diamond. They split the two NLDS contests here last October, both of those going ‘over’ the totals while the last five regular season games in Los Angeles cashed for ‘under’ bettors.

There’s nothing to worry about this evening on the weather front with clear skies, temps in the upper-60s at first pitch and a very light SW breeze. Washington hasn’t seen many lefties this year but has fared well enough for me to go that way with a free baseball pick on the reverse run line.
