For our total MLB pick of the day, we are going to back the 'under' when the Chicago White Sox take on the Twins in Minnesota. Two veteran pitchers take the mound and should keep the run total down in this matchup.

Baseball Betting Odds
MLB odds makers have come out with a total of 8.5 for this game. That seems about right for this matchup with two pitchers with pretty high ERA's this season. Right now the juice on the game goes from -111 to -115 at most sports books. The best odds I have found that Pinnacle sports book at -111. I don't think this line is going to move very much.

Veteran Starting Pitchers
John Danks takes the mound for the White Sox and comes in with a 5.16 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. His career numbers are much better than how he is doing this season with a 4.33 career ERA and 1.34 WHIP, not exactly lights-out though. He has been pitching for eight years and he can be really hot or cold, but he is coming off a solid outing where he allowed only three earned runs in seven innings pitched and only five hits. The Twins are not the best offensive team in the league so he should have some success today. For the Twins Tommy Milone takes the mound with a 3.67 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. I had a chance to watch him pitch last year when he was sent down to the minor leagues for a short time and he is a real grinder. He is coming off three solid starts where he allowed only five earned runs in his last 19 innings pitched. In his last 14 innings he is only allowed eight hits, he is pitching really well right now.

Neither the White Sox nor the Twins are two of the better hitting teams in the major leagues. The Twins are a little better in every major offensive category and the White Sox are one of the worst offensive teams this season. The Twins rank 16th in runs scored per game and the White Sox are second to last ranked 29th. In my favorite category of on base plus slugging percentage the Twins rank 24th and the White Sox ranked dead last. The Twins seem to be a little bit better of a clutch hitting team and have had some really good timing in scoring their runs, but overall nothing special. The White Sox have simply been ranked at the bottom of the league and have done nothing at the plate.

This is an interesting matchup with two subpar offenses against two veteran pitchers. I think the odds makers have come out with this number a little bit too high and so I will back the under for my total MLB pick today in this game.
