We’ve seen some upsets and there’s some really good pitching matchups out there today on this Tuesday. Time to find the best mathcups and look to make the maximum amount of profit for MLB Picks of the Day.

Heavy chalk mode didn’t work yesterday because a split isn’t good enough. Seattle and Felix Hernandez were a disappointment. Let’s see if we can do better today.

New York Yankees (11-8) at Boston Red Sox (9-11)
Tanaka Time!
When a pitcher goes 24-0 in any league, 2-0 in the preseason, and now 3-0 in the Major League regular season, you must take notice.

Masahiro Tanaka is the real deal and is possibly the hottest thing going in the majors in a long time. Tanaka is coming off back to back 10 strikeout efforts. Now comes the real test as he faces the defending champion Red Sox at Fenway Park. Is he up for the task?

The Red Sox have gotten off to a slow start and teams tend to do this after winning championships the previous year. There’s no Ellsbury to set the tone and no Saltalamacchia to make the pitchers happy. Boston could be in trouble this season and if Masahiro Tanaka can nail down his 30 consecutive winning decision at Fenway Park, this could be quite embarrassing for Boston and give the Yankees a boost.

Jon Lester
Great pitching wins games and the Red Sox will make this game interesting as they start one of their better pitchers in Lester (2-2, 2.17). Lester defeated the Yankees on the 11th of April and this is a pitcher that’s 44 games over the .500 mark for his career with 102 career wins. We should see a low scoring game here as the pitching is of high quality.

I will take a team that’s a +104 underdog on the MLB odds board with a pitcher who has won 29 consecutive games any day of the week .We like Tanaka here and the total is relatively low at 7.5. I like the under with 2 quality pitchers starting.

We’re going to buy a ½ run at -135 and take N.Y for our baseball picks.

MLB Picks: Yankees +104

MLB Picks: Yankees/Red Sox Under 8 -135 at 5 Dimes (Buying ½ run)

Philadelphia Phillies (9-10) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (12-8)
A Shot in the Dark
When picking an underdog, sometimes you need to find the correct circumstance. The Phillies core of Rollins (3 HR, 13 RBI, .286 BA,) Utley (3 HR, 12 RBI, .391 BA), and Howard (5 HR, 12 RBI, .271) have been hitting quite well and Philly is coming off of a huge 7-0 victory over Los Angeles, sparked by Cliff Lee. I also think that even though the Dodgers are the better baseball team, this whole situation with Yasiel Puig is detrimental to the entire squad.

A.J. Burnett
Burnett had a really encouraging effort in his last start as he allowed just 3 hits in 7 innings at home against a good Atlanta team. He faces Hyun- Jin Ryu (3-1,1.93) who is having a great start to the season, but is certainly beatable. Look for Philly to pull off the upset in L.A.

MLB Pick: Philadelphia +161 at 5 Dimes
