Armed with a lineup that never quits and a solid bullpen, the Brewers look to upset the MLB odds again Saturday night in Denver against the Rockies.

Among the later games on Saturday’s card is a duel between playoff hopefuls in the Mile High City where the Milwaukee Brewers are visiting the Colorado Rockies. An 8:10 PM (ET) first pitch at Coors Field finds Chase Anderson (3-3, 3.97) on the bump for the Brew Crew opposite Colorado’s Kyle Freeland (2-4, 3.95), and Bookmaker lists the Rockies on a -120 money line with 11 for the scoreboard hurdle.

The clubs got things going Thursday when the Brewers grabbed the lead on Lorenzo Cain’s 1st-pitch homer and went on to a 5-2 victory. The final marked the 6th-straight ‘under’ winner in the rivalry, and seventh in a row in Denver. That run was broken Friday night in a Coors Field special as Milwaukee scored in the 9th and 10th innings for an 11-10 decision.

Long Ball Has Been Big Problem For Anderson

Milwaukee started this trip – which takes the team to Arizona and Minnesota next – with a 21-16 record built on the strength of a 14-1 mark against teams with a losing record, so grabbing the first two wins were big. Now we’ll see if Anderson can slow the home run assault against him in the thin air of Coors Field. The former OU standout has served up 10 long balls in his first 45+ frames, better than double his rate from 2017 when he was tagged for 14 HR in 141.1 innings. The bulk of those homers (8) were hit in his four home starts compared to just two on the road. Anderson is 2-2 in five career starts at Coors, posting a devilish 6.66 ERA with 5 HR in 25.2 IP.

Freeland has been a victim of low run support so far, the Rockies averaging just 3.0 RPG in his seven starts compared to just over 4.0 in their other games. The southpaw has gone 7-full innings the last three times out and is coming off a 3-2 win over Noah Syndergaard and the Mets in New York as a +165 underdog on the MLB odds. He lost his only career assignment vs. the Brewers last year in Denver, pitching into the sixth and allowing three runs (2 ER).

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Will Little is up next in Ted Barrett’s crew to call balls and strikes, the Tennessee native a level 3-3 O/U in the totals column so far in 2018. This will be his fifth plate assignment at Coors since beginning his MLB career in 2013, the previous four running 3-1 O/U.

Scattered thunderstorms are in the evening forecast for Denver, along with a 10-15 mph north wind (in from center).I’m pinning my free baseball pick on the visiting Brewers.
