Ross Benjamin shares his two best totals picks on Wednesday’s card. Read his intriguing analysis on these matchups to find out why he's making these selections.
Blue Jays (Hutchinson) vs. White Sox (Danks) 8:10 PM ET
Drew Hutchinson was sensational in his only start versus the White Sox this season. In that outing at home, he tossed a complete game four hit shutout. However, Hutchinson has struggled on the road in 2015, posting a monster 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, and eight of those nine starts went over the total. As a matter of fact, Hutchinson has an even worse 10.39 ERA and 2.42 WHIP in his last four on the road, and all those starts went over the total.
John Danks hasn’t exactly impressed anyone with his lofty 4.74 ERA in fifteen starts this season. The veteran southpaw hurler has posted a terrible 5.82 ERA in three starts versus Toronto since 2014. He’ll be facing a Blue Jays lineup tonight which is averaging 5.9 runs per game versus left-handed starting pitching in 2015, and has also banged out 108 home runs for the year.
Considering the White Sox have gone 28-9-1 under the total at home this year, tonight’s total of 8.5 on this game would seem to be awfully high. However, the sportsbooks never make it that easy. I like this to be a high scoring game for one of my MLB picks today. At the time of this writing, 5Dimes provided me with the best price in that regard.
MLB Pick: Blue Jays and White Sox over 8.5 (-102) at 5Dimes.
Marlins (Koehler) vs. Red Sox (Porcello) 7:10 PM ET
Tom Koehler’s overall body of work on the road this season has been far from stellar. In eight starts in that role, Koehler posted a sizable 5.77 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. Koehler has gone 16-7 over the total on the road since 2014.
Rick Porcello has been a huge disappointment thus far for Boston. The Red Sox hurler has posted a large 6.08 ERA during sixteen starts this season. He’s also been in horrible form over his last eight starts with a large 8.18 ERA and allowed 8 home runs in 44.0 innings of work.
Gabe Morales will be the home plate umpire for Wednesday’s game. Morales has gone 26-16 (61.9%) over the total since 2013 when calling balls and strikes. This has all the signs of a high scoring game, and that will be one of my MLB picks on Wednesday. Heritage will be receiving my call for this wager based on their current price.
MLB Picks: Marlins and Red Sox over 9.0 (+100) at Heritage.
