We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Friday's card. Read on and find two picks that will maximize your profits while you enjoy the IFBC.

Padres vs. Pirates

Left-hander Travis Wood (2-3, 6.42 ERA, 1.66 WHIP) takes the hill for the Padres after winning his first start with them last Friday, when he gave up two earned runs on two hits (one home run) with one walk and seven strikeouts over six innings of a 3-2 victory against the Pirates. Wood is just 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA in 15 road appearances (no starts) but he's comfortable against National League teams and he already beat the Pirates last week.

Ivan Nova (10-8, 3.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) will get the ball for the Pirates after losing his second straight start last Saturday, when he allowed four earned runs on eight hits (one home run) with no walks and six strikeouts over five innings in a 4-2 setback against the Padres. Nova is just 4-4 with a 5.48 ERA over his last eight starts, surrendering 11 home runs in that span, so it's hard to see him recover the magic he had in the first half of the season here. I'm taking a chance on Wood to beat the Pirates again at +162 MLB odds.

Dodgers vs. Mets

Yu Darvish (6-9, 4.01 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) will make his first start for the Dodgers, who traded prospects Willie Calhoun, A.J. Alexy and Brendon Davis for him. Darvish last pitched nine days ago, when he was rocked for a career-high 10 earned runs over 3 2/3 innings against the Marlins in his final start with the Rangers. He was said to be tipping his pitches in that game but the change of scenery should help him iron out those issues and return to his top form.

Jacob deGrom (12-4, 3.29 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) starts for the Mets after seeing his eight-game winning streak end last Saturday, when he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts in six innings of a 3-2 loss against the Mariners. deGrom has given up one earned run or less and thrown at least seven innings in seven of his last nine starts to lower his ERA to 3.29 and he ranks third in the National League with 12 wins, third with 162 strikeouts, sixth with 139 2/3 innings pitched and seventh with a 1.15 WHIP. I'm looking at Under 7.5 (+100) for my MLB picks here, as Darvish and deGrom get back on track.
