Our Sports handicapper provides a betting preview of tonight's matchup of AL Division leaders as the Baltimore Orioles face the Kansas City Royals, So join us if you care for a spot-on MLB pick.

I recommended a winning Over the total wager here on the SBR website in Yovani Gallardo's last start against Texas on Saturday and he remains high on the 'bet against' list for me and I expect him to struggle here against the Kansas City Royals. Gallardo is aging and his stuff is declining. His velocity is down and he is not even close to getting the same number of swings and misses that he used to.

Making matters even worse is the fact he entered the spring dealing with shoulder concerns and it showed as he got hit hard in spring training and his struggles have carried over into the regular season. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings last weekend against the Rangers consistently having to pitch his way out of trouble as he's thrown an average of 17.5 or more pitches per inning in this first three starts while also issuing 6 walks and just 9 strikeouts in those outings.

The patient, disciplined and solid Kansas City lineup is likely going to be a bad matchup for Gallardo and I expect them to score their share of runs against him. On the flip side, Chris Young will get the start for the Kansas City Royals and he often has pitched better at Kauffman Stadium than on the road but I still have concerns with him against a very potent Baltimore lineup which has several home run hitters in the lineup including the likes of Manny Machado, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters.

Young has yielded 12 runs on 20 hits in 13.2 innings of work this season with 7 walks and 10 strikeouts and 3 home runs allowed and his struggles with keeping the ball in the park early in the season could be troublesome for him here against an Orioles team that is ranked 2nd in MLB in home runs in the first month of the season.

The Orioles lineup should be a solid fit against Young and have some success at the plate tonight. Baltimore's bullpen in particular could be a bit thin tonight after several of their key relievers including closer Zach Britton and Darren O'Day worked multiple games in their series against Toronto. Without a day off between that series and the start of this one, we could see a vulnerable Orioles bullpen tonight and the Royals should have a chance to score some late runs in this game as well.

I have two MLB picks in this game on the side and the total. With this total sliding down to 8.5 on MLB Odds, after opening at 9, I think it's an incorrect move and I will play this game up and Over the total and I will also recommend a bet on the Kansas City Royals in this game at -125 as I expect them to get to Gallardo early and own an edge with their tremendous bullpen over the Orioles bullpen in the latter innings.
