St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs
I recommended a winning bet with John Lackey in his last start for the Chicago Cubs and I have no reservations about backing him again here as he faces his former team the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. Lackey has been terrific coming into this game with a 2.66 ERA and an even better 1.66 ERA in 6 home starts and he is notching some of the best numbers of his career in terms of FIP, xFIP, strikeouts and swinging strike rate despite his age.

At some point, things are likely to level off a bit for Lackey but he has been nothing but a strong, ‘bet on’ pitcher all season and he shut down the Cardinals in two previous outings against them this season allowing 3 runs in 14 innings against St. Louis and has yielded 3 runs or less in 9 straight starts.

Jaime Garcia will be on the mound for the Cardinals and the lefty has been rocked in his last two starts allowing 9 runs on 21 hits in 11 innings against Cincinnati and Houston. St. Louis is 2-4 in Garcia’s last 6 starts and 0-4 in his last 4 starts against the Chicago Cubs. For my MLB Picks I’ll lay a steeper price than I normally would here with the Chicago Cubs who are riding a 7-2 run against St. Louis heading into this series.

Chicago White Sox vs Boston Red Sox
I have been patiently waiting for a decline in Miguel Gonzalez and we got it in his last start for the White Sox as he was hammered for 7 runs on 8 hits in 3.1 innings against Detroit and things won’t get much easier for him at Fenway Park against a very dangerous Boston lineup.

The Red Sox have seen plenty of Gonzalez dating back to his time spent with the Baltimore Orioles so the Red Sox hitters should be able to manufacture a very good and productive approach at the plate against him and the White Sox bullpen is not likely to be very sturdy after being used heavily in their weekend series against Cleveland. Steven Wright continues to get the job done for the Red Sox as the knuckleballer has had a very good season to this point allowing just 3 runs in his last 19.2 innings pitched over his last three starts.

Boston is 8-5 in his 13 starts this season including 5-0 in his last five outings. I’ll lay a run and a half on the MLB Odds runline with the Red Sox here and look for them to win this game by margin as they’ve won by 2 runs or more in each of Steven Wright’s last 5 starts.
