We browse the early odds board in search of MLB betting value on Friday's slate and offer two selections on American League games to maximize your profits at the start of the weekend.

Rays vs. Orioles

Right-hander Jacob Faria (3-0, 2.10 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) takes the hill for the Rays after giving up three earned runs on five hits (two home runs) and one walk with seven strikeouts over six innings to get a no-decision in an 8-3 loss against the Orioles last Saturday. Faria has allowed three earned runs or less and pitched at least six innings in all his four starts and he's 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two road starts.

Chris Tillman (1-5, 8.39 ERA, 2.18 WHIP) will get the ball for the Orioles after a poor outing against the Rays on Sunday, when he allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits (one home run) and two walks with five strikeouts in just 4 1/3 innings to get a no-decision in an 8-5 loss. Tillman has lost his last five decisions, he's winless since May 7, he hasn't pitched more than 5 1/3 innings in any of his last four starts and he's 1-3 with a 6.28 ERA in six home starts. I just can't back Tillman here, I'm taking the Rays at -129 MLB odds.

Twins vs. Royals

Ervin Santana (10-4, 2.80 ERA, 1.05 WHIP) will start for the Twins after throwing six scoreless innings, surrendering nine hits and zero walks with seven strikeouts in a 4-0 victory against the Indians last Sunday. Santana leads the American League with three complete games, ranks second with 10 wins, third with 106 innings pitched and a 1.05 WHIP and fourth with a 4.80 ERA and he's 6-1 with a 1.50 ERA in seven road starts.

Jason Vargas (11-3, 2.29 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) will make his 16th start of the season for the Royals. The left-hander has won his last six starts, including last Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, when he gave up two earned runs on eight hits (two home runs) and zero walks with two strikeouts in seven innings of a 3-2 win. Vargas leads the American League with 11 wins and a 2.29 ERA, he ranks seventh with a 1.13 WHIP and he's 6-1 with a 1.92 ERA and one complete game in eight home starts. I'm looking at Under 8 for my MLB picks in what promises to be an exciting pitching matchup between two of the best starters in the majors this season.
