The MLB season has been nothing less than interesting as some teams have played nearly one-half of their schedule, and others have been limited by COVID-19. The AL Central has a massive series showdown between the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins. There’s money to be made regardless and we have a free pick for you.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox

Thursday, September 17, 2020 – 02:10 PM EDT at Guaranteed Rate Field

Probable Pitchers

  • Minnesota: Kenta Maeda (5-1 2.43 ERA)
  • Chicago: Dallas Keuchel (6-2 2.19 ERA)

The AL Central has quickly whittled down to a race of two excellent rosters after recent win spurts from the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins. Two excellent teams with loaded rosters, this series can sway how the rest of the playoff race plays out in the division. It's hard to understate the importance of the potential outcome of this series since Minnesota is one-game back from first place.

Chicago continues to rank as arguably the best team in the AL thanks to a top-four offense and defense/pitching staff in the league. Their combination of explosive hitters and throwers is nearly unmatched. With nine wins in their last 10 games and a respectable 16-9 home record, this is a powerhouse team.

If Dallas Keuchel is cleared to pitch this game, it's hard to argue against going with the home favorite on the MLB odds board. Keuchel's 10-day IL stint certainly may give pause in the event he's not fully healthy, but he wasn't rushed back for this game based on reports. He's been one of the best pitchers in the league until his brief absence.

The reason to pick the Twins would be hedging against Keuchel's sharpness. Though Kenta Maeda has had himself an incredibly successful season as well, the Twins have hit much worse on the road, and the White Sox offense is simply more dangerous than his own. The Twins haven't given Maeda more than four runs of support in one-month. We'd love better value for our MLB picks on this game but we've hit big on the White Sox all season long and there's not a trend in place to buck our optimism of continuation.
