Will the Yankees be able to capture their fifth win in a row tonight? Can Minnesota continue their superb play at home? Read our revealing betting preview article to get those answers and much more.
Yankees and Twins meet for First Time in 2015
The Yankees and Twins open a three game series tonight at Target Field in Minnesota. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams. Since 2013 the Yankees have gone 9-5 versus the Twins, 7-1 at Minnesota, and 6 of the 8 meetings have gone over the total at Target Field.
The Yankees Michael Pineda will take the mound on Friday for this series opener. Pineda has been in stellar form over his previous four starts, posting a 2.28 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and nearly a 9:1 strikeout to walk ratio. All four of those starts went under the posted total.
Minnesota will send veteran right-hander Philip Hughes to the hill on Friday. Hughes has gone a superb 6-1 in his last seven team starts with an outstanding 2.41 ERA. The Minnesota hurler has impeccable control, evidenced by him issuing only 12 walks in 123 2/3 innings (1 per 10.3 innings) pitched this year. The flip side to that equation, he’s allowing a very high 10.2 hits per 9.0 innings pitched in 2015. Hughes will be working on 5 days of rest tonight, and he’s gone 18-6 under the total since 2014 when pitching on 5 or 6 days of rest.
Yankees are Red-Hot
The Yankees enter this series having won four in a row, six of the last seven, and nine of their previous eleven games. However, it must be noted, they’ve played 12 of their last 15 games at home. “The Bronx Bombers” have gone a dismal 5-10 in their previous fifteen away games.
No Place like Home for Twins
The Twins are coming off a six game road trip which saw them go 2-4. They were able to snap a four game losing streak on Thursday with a 3-0 win over the Angels. Despite that win, they’ve still gone a poor 19-28 on the road this season. Playing in their home ballpark at Target Field has been a much different story. The Twins have gone a terrific 31-16 (.660) at home, and that includes 7-1 in their previous eight.
This selection is all about betting value. In my professional opinion this is a very even starting pitching matchup, and both bullpens performance lines are similar. Considering the Twins are the home underdog tonight, their impressive record at home, and the Yankees recent struggles on the road, I have to give the nod to Minnesota as one of my MLB picks for today. Wagerweb.com currently provides me with the best value in that regard.
