We’re coming off of a big day in the MLB as the desperate teams on the outside looking in won yesterday. That doesn’t mean the teams that they’re chasing lost, but it’s irrelevant. Here are Tuesday’s betting picks.

Capper Catalano’s Record

209-181 -15.46 Units

Just as we thought; the Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Angels were each looking ahead to the post-season while the New York Yankees and Michael “Pine tar” Pineda held the O’s in check and kept the Yankees very faint playoff hopes alive and Jeff Samardzija took advantage of the best team in the majors who are also disinterested in the final games of the regular season in the Los Angeles Angels. This is also a way of getting more desirable MLB odds.

Baltimore Orioles (93-63) vs. New York Yankees (81-75)

Baltimore Doesn’t Care
Even though the Kansas City won yesterday, leaving the Yankees 4 games behind with 6 to play, from yesterday’s game it was obvious to the naked eye that the Orioles simply don’t care.

Manager Buck Showalter is content in being named manager of the year in the AL and the Orioles are content in waiting for their first round opponent in the playoffs. They were non-existent in yesterday’s game and tonight they face Brandon McCarthy (7-4, 2.54), a pitcher who has proven to be a fantastic pick up in the Vidal Nuno trade. The odds are fairly respectable with the Yankees as a -138 betting favorite. There’s no reason to believe that we won’t see a repeat of yesterday.

Finishing Strong
After an 0 for 28 slump, Derek Jeter has been on fire in the remaining games in his major league career. Jeter is hitting the ball with authority. In the last week alone, the Yankee captain is 10 for his last 26 with 1 HR and 6 RBI. Jeter has had a double in each of his last 3 games and has had multiple hit games in 4 out of his last 6 games. Look for Derek Jeter to play well. He’s always been a clutch player and is looking to leave on a good note.

It’s not just Derek Jeter in the 40 and over club that has been finding success lately. Ichiro Suzuki has been getting on base often and has been swiping bags at will. With a weak Yankees offense, these kinds of efforts are what the Yankees need to win tonight’s ball game with superior pitching in McCarthy.

MLB Pick: New York- 138 at 5Dimes- 2 Unit Play

Seattle Mariners (83-73) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (79-77)

A Lack Of Heart
You have a Seattle Mariners who are on the outside looking in, but have a better chance of making the playoffs than the Yankees do and they lose to Toronto 14-4 in a laugher after Jose Bautista and the Jays, who will not make the post-season, basically owned Mariners pitching.

Seattle must win tonight and they have the right guy pitching in “King” Felix Hernandez (14-5, 2.07). This hasn’t been a Cy Young season for Hernandez, but he has the ability to shut down any offense at any time and that’s what Seattle will be looking for tonight as they’re trailing the Royals by 2 games in the AL Wild Card.

Spoiler Role
Toronto had their chance and now are forced into the spoiler role. If there was any offense that could fluster Hernandez it would be the Blue Jays offense which contains the power of Bautista and Encarnacion and the speed of Reyes. Hernandez is a right handed pitcher, therefore expect Adam Lind in the lineup as he has ripped apart righties.

The Jays send R.A. Dickey (13-12, 3.82) to the mound and with knuckleballers, you just don’t know what you’re going to get. Dickey has pitched 5 consecutive quality outings and I expect him to go toe to toe with the King. Look for a low scoring affair with two very capable pitchers in this game. So take the 'under' for tonight's MLB picks.

MLB Pick: Seattle/Toronto Under 7 at 5 Dimes
