Our MLB handicapper suggests you get a book that offers alternate lines, as one of his MLB Picks of the Day will require a +2.5 run line to follow. Read on as he backs two dogs for Tuesday's MLB action.

2017 MLB Record: 166-148-9 (+6.20 Units)

Cleveland Indians at Minnesota Twins

Our MLB handicapper finds the Indians in a tough travel spot on Tuesday evening and even Bartolo Colon has a chance of getting past them.

The Indians come into this game after traveling from Tampa Bay to Boston for a makeup game on Monday, then to Minnesota for the start of this series on Tuesday night. They were winners on Monday as the Red Sox's Doug Fister was lit up for 5 earned runs after walking four batters. The Indians did burn 3 relievers, though, so the bullpen is getting taxed a bit at this point in their 11-game road trip. Danny Salazar starts for the Indians, and he has been red hot in the second half of the season, carrying a 1.87 FIP over 25.1 innings pitched. This is a big ask for Salazar, who does struggle against lefties on the season to the tune of a .290 BAA.

The Twins have 9 lefties, including switch-hitters, whom they could stack their lineup with to take advantage of Salazar’s split. They’ll need it, as 44-year-old Bartolo Colon gets the start for them on the mound. But Colon has been decent lately and is experiencing a “golden glow” in what should be his last year in the major leagues. Enjoy it, as it is not often that you can make an analogy with hospice care and baseball. I’ll take the Twins against this very rough travel spot with Cleveland at plus odds as one of my Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Chicago White Sox at LA Dodgers

The last time that our MLB handicapper saw chalk this steep, he took a +2.5 run line just to see the underdog win outright. He’ll use the strategy again on Tuesday night to pick up value on the MLB card.

There is not much I can say here that will make you believe that the White Sox can win this game. Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez has a 5.11 FIP and a 6-10 record on the year and is going up against a 83-34 Dodger team that has won 8 of its last 10 games. We aren’t asking Gonzalez to win, though, we are asking him to keep the game close. His above average 10.5% HR/FB rate is a good sign as well as the fact that he only allowed one run in 6 innings pitched against the Dodgers just a month ago.

Alex Wood goes for the Dodgers and by now you probably know that I was going to pick against him. At this point in the season we know what we are getting with Wood, but in this case with heavy chalk the books are going to ask him to beat a team by 3 runs. I love the value of getting +2.5 runs at even money in any baseball game and this one is no different.
