The Padres evened up the series last night and now have a chance to win it in the penultimate matchup of the three-game set this afternoon. Let's run over our favorite MLB picks for this one.

Sunday's MLB Odds
Wherever you look, the Rangers are small favorites for today's game against the Padres. They're quoted in the -120 to -125 range to earn the win, which leaves San Diego at roughly +115.

We'll have Yovani Gallardo and Tyson Ross taking the bump for tonight. The O/U is listed at 8.5 runs, so it's clear oddsmakers are expecting the two offenses to have a lot of success.

Texas Rangers (Gallardo)
What a rough stretch it's been for the Rangers. They've lost six of their last seven and can now be found at 42-45 for the season, three games under .500. Texas has a ton of talent, but it's mostly all in the hitting department, as the pitching staff has started to see a whole lot of regression across the board. Of course it hasn't helped that ace Yu Darvish has missed the whole season.

The one bright spot for the Texas staff has been Gallardo, who has gone 7-7 with a 2.67 ERA and 1.20 WHIP for the season. He's been on quite the roll lately, and now gets an excellent matchup at home against the weak-hitting Padres.

Gallardo is 4-3 with a 2.52 ERA over eight home starts, but he has yet to face the Padres in 2015. The right-hander was incredible in the month of June, recording a sterling 0.54 ERA in 33 and 1/3 innings of work, and he's carried that form over into July, giving up just three earned runs in his first two appearances of the month.

San Diego Padres (Ross)
Just like the Rangers, the Padres have not been playing good baseball. They may have won yesterday, but they had lost six straight prior, so this is a team that's working through some issues too. San Diego is 40-49 for the year, which puts them second-to-last in the NL West.

Tyson Ross has been solid for the Padres in spite of a poor overall season for the club. He's 5-7 to go with a 3.56 ERA and 1.45 WHIP; has command has been a little more suspect in 2015, but he's still put forth a number of quality starts for San Diego and will be liking his chances of shutting down a cold Texas team.

Ross has performed better on the road than at home this season, a little surprising considering the friendly pitching conditions at Peco Park; he owns a 2.97 ERA away from home and a 4.50 ERA when pitching in San Diego. Ross will be facing the Rangers for the first time this season, and we're eager to see how he holds up against some powerful bats like Prince Fielder, Mitch Moreland, Adrian Beltre and Justin Hamilton. Ross has the stuff to quiet any lineup, but a win here will take his very best.

MLB Pick
We're actually going to fade the public perception in this situation.

A lot of people expect runs whenever the Rangers are at home, and it oftentimes doesn't matter if good pitchers are on the bump, at least in the eyes of some. But, you have to like what Gallardo's been doing lately, and Ross has certainly been no slouch either, so we could very well see a pitcher's duel in this situation.

With that in mind, we are going to roll with the UNDER as one of our MLB picks for Sunday. We expect the pitchers to rise to the occasion and help keep this game's total low. Let's see if Gallardo and Ross can keep it going.
