New York has been big chalk in the first two games against Toronto, but the MLB odds are close to a pick 'em when the Yankees and Blue Jays close out their first series of 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees have a win each and now head to the rubber game this evening (7:05 PM ET) in what is currently a pick 'em at several sportsbooks. After New York opened a slight favorite, 5Dimes has Toronto -103 on its morning nickel line for the pitching matchup between Marcus Stroman and CC Sabathia.

Tonight's clash ends the first meeting of 2017 between the division rivals, Toronto having won the previous two season series. The Blue Jays pulled off the upset Monday as +165 underdogs on the MLB odds, the 7-1 final just easing 'over' a 7½ run mark. Game 2 also found the Yanks favored as well as went 'over' as New York brought out the big bats for an 11-5 decision. The Yankees started the series having won 49 of 75 meetings between the two at The House That George Built.

Jays 5-2 Last 7 Battles With Sabathia

Stroman should stand 4-1 on the campaign, but instead, the Blue Jays are 2-3 when the little righthander takes the hill. The former Duke standout has tossed two complete games and worked at least into the seventh in four of five outings, coming off a no-decision vs. the Rays last Friday when he whiffed a season-high 10. Stroman has split his four career assignments in the Bronx where he sports a 4.12 ERA (19.2 IP).

Sabathia's feel-good start to the 2017 campaign has gone south his last two trips to the bump, the Yankees splitting the decisions despite CC giving up four homers and surrendering 11 runs over the combined 10.2 innings. Without the same hard stuff he had earlier in his career, Sabathia has to be able to hit spots to keep hitters off-balance or the long ball will continue being trouble. Despite losing five of his last seven starts vs. Toronto, the veteran has had good results against Blue Jay hitters, for the most part, holding Jose Bautista to a .125 average (5-40) with only one bleacher bomb.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Veteran arbiter Bill Welke is up next to call balls and strikes for this crew and brings a 4-1 O/U record into the series finale. Wednesday marks his first plate assignment at Yankee Stadium since July 2015, his last two games behind the dish here cashing for both New York and 'under' bettors. It's worth noting that Welke and the Blue Jays aren't on the best of terms, the Michigan native having ejected both Jose Bautista and Toronto manager John Gibbons twice over the years.

It should be a nice evening in the Bronx with clear skies and 60º at first pitch, a 12-15 mph NW wind (out to right) also in the mix. Tonight's total is 8½, and given how the series has gone and the way Sabathia is pitching, my free baseball pick is on the 'over.'
