Saturday's slate features the middle game of a three-game set between ancient rivals, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. Let's examine the matchup, as well as the MLB odds, in this late matinee.

The Midsummer Classic is in our rearview mirror and it's time to see if we can keep this money train rolling along, as our MLB picks. have been unconscious this season. We are now hitting at close to 68 percent and this number reflects the entire season. It is not a snapshot of how we have fared over our list 10 games or specifically day games when the moon is in Capricorn. No, this is a bona fide, documented, and thoroughly legitimate season-long record.

I realize this industry is replete with hyperbole, suspect records and outright lying but at SBR you get experienced handicappers who don't charge a nickel. We don't fib about our records because we don't have to and that is just one more thing that makes SBR the premier sports gambling forum on the planet. Let's review the MLB odds in this AL East tilt between the Red Sox and Yankees with a view towards continuing our torrid winning streak.

Rodriguez Back to the Bigs
Eduardo Rodriguez (1-3, 8.59 ERA, 1.74 WHIP) was so dominating at times last season that he even picked up a cool nickname - E-Rod. The then 22-year-old starter looked like he was Boston's newest "next big thing" especially after shutting down their fiercest rivals, the New York Yankees, to the tune of a 3-1 record and a 2.22 ERA in four starts last season.

But after spending the beginning of this season on the DL due to a right knee injury, the young southpaw has been torched in his 2016 major league performances. In fact, he was so ineffective in his last MLB start against the Rays on June 27th ( nine runs on 11 hits in two plus innings) that his woeful performance earned him a ticket back to Triple-A Pawtucket. Down on the farm Rodriguez made a pair of starts, allowing two runs over 10 innings of work and, reportedly, worked diligently on his mechanics. This afternoon's meeting with the Yankees will tell the tale of just how helpful that minor league conditioning stint was to Rodriguez.

Betting Analysis
Last night the Red Sox continued their winning ways with a 5-3 victory over their hosts from the Bronx. Boston has now won eight of their last 10 games and trail the AL East leading Orioles by just two games while the Yankees fell to 8 ½ back with the loss. Despite Boston's poor starting pitching their offense has mitigated that deficit and then some. The Red Sox are tops in the four major offensive categories: runs scored (495), team batting average (.291), on base percentage (.358) and slugging percentage (.474).

CC Sabathia (5-6, 3.77 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) takes the hill for the Yankees and he has been a middle of the road, innings eater for New York which is far different from the All-Star stud he was earlier in his career. However, it should be noted that he has posted an 8.22 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP over his last four starts. His last appearance was against Cleveland where he allowed five runs on seven hits in five plus innings of work, resulting in a 7-6 Yankees' victory.

The big unknown is we don't know which Eduardo Rodriguez will show up today. On paper the Sox have a far better offense and Boston's three home runs from three different players last night demonstrate their bats are still hot. I also know that should Rodriguez run into problems, manager John Farrell will have a quick hook as he has a rested bullpen after the break and the arms are locked and loaded to weather the storm. In addition, Sabathia has been pulverized over his last four starts by lineups that are not nearly as ferocious as Boston's.

Let's hope Rodriguez shows flashes of the dazzling pitcher he was against the Yankees last season and that the Boston sluggers light up the quickly fading Sabathia. I like the live dog here.
