One trend in the MLB that seems to stay consistent is the massive amount of runs that the two top California teams are putting up. Do we hit these games with the over or go elsewhere with our betting picks?

Capper Catalano’s Record

201-176 -20.04 Units

Yesterday was a disappointing day. We had the 2- Unit play and a win with the Tigers and Mad Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom was the man as he struck out 13 batters and left the game with the lead in our other 2- unit play with the Mets.

Unfortunately, the Mets bullpen let us down. Lastly, we lose a 1- unit play with the Seattle Mariners and Hisashi Iwakuma as they get destroyed by the Los Angeles Angels. I did note in the last MLB Picks of the Day article that the Angels had been scoring a ton of runs and I faded them for the better pitcher in Iwakuma.

Detroit Tigers (84-66) vs. Minnesota Twins (63-87)

Riding the Lopsided Matchup
If you can get Rick Porcello (15-11, 3.23) and one of the best offenses in the league in the Detroit Tigers at -130 betting odds against a bottom-feeder such as the Minnesota Twins, you take the Tigers.

As I stated in my last article, Detroit has a small lead over the Kansas City Royals for the American League Central Title and they have everything to play for while the Minnesota Twins have absolutely nothing to play for.

Rick Porcello
Detroit starter, Rick Porcello, is part of the reason why the odds are so low. He needs a win here from a psychological standpoint. Porcello had pitched brilliantly all season long, but lately is in a downhill spiral. Porcello has lost 3 out of his last 8 decisions. The Tigers need to know that they can count on Porcello in the playoffs and he wants to end a relatively good season on a positive note. This game is big for Porcello and the betting odds are the focus.

The Detroit Offense
You have a Tigers offense that so far superior to that of the Twins, it’s not even funny. The Tigers rank 2nd in baseball in runs, 1st in batting average, and 1st in on-base percentage. Miguel Cabrera’s power is starting to pick up after he hit his 23rd home run of the season in a 8-6 Tigers win last night. He’s only going to get better. Then the Tigers have the Martinez’s following Miggy in the lineup.

Victor Martinez is having and MVP-like season. Mike Trout will probably get the nod due to the Angels record, but Victor Martinez has been the best player in the American League. Finally, J.D. Martinez is emerging as a star in his own right. He’s hitting well above .300, can knock in runs, and hit for power.

The only question in this game is Rick Porcello and I say he pitches a good enough game to inspire the moneyline MLB pick on the Tigers to win.

Free MLB Pick: Detroit -130 at 5 Dimes- 3 Units (Normally, this would be a 2- unit play the way that Porcello has pitched, but the MLB odds are fantastic!)

Seattle Mariners (80-69) vs. Los Angeles Angels (94-56)

An Offensive Machine
At this point, I don’t care who is pitching for the Halos; their offense has been simply unstoppable and has led to them winning 10 out of their last 11 games. They’re also doing this all without star pitcher Garrett Richards who is out for the season.

How Good Have They Been?
Since September 5th, the Angels have played a total of 11 games and scored a total of 90 runs in those games. They have only scored less than 5 runs in one of those games. One would naturally think that we’re headed for another over the total.

Yesterday, Hisashi Iwakuma was the Angels latest victim as he allowed 7 runs on 6 hits in 3 1/3 innings. David Freese led the way with a home run and if Freese gets going, this team can be even more dominant. Freese had a huge post season for the St. Louis Cardinals a few years back that led to a World Series Championship. I’ve seen much better offenses than the one that the Angels put out on the field, but the results don’t lie. This team just keeps putting up huge numbers.
