Our MLB handicapper, Mark Lathrop, loves two of the situations that present themselves on the Wednesday betting card – a total in the sixes and aa home dog at nearly even money on the underdog run line. Read on as he breaks down his MLB Picks of the Day.

This total has dropped to autobet territory for our MLB handicapper as the line drops to 6 at Heritage at time of writing. Read on as he analyzes the pitching matchup between these two NL West rivals.

Johnny Cueto has already faced the Los Angeles Dodgers twice this year and given up 3 earned runs in each start. Such is this season’s statistics on hand for this direct matchup between Cueto and Clayton Kershaw. But I’d like to focus on Cueto’s advanced statistics, such as his career low 40.1% ground all rate and significantly higher 15.1% HR/FB rate. An FIP of 4.17 indicates that Cueto is indeed vulnerable on the mound this year and capable of continuing the trend of giving up 3 runs or more per start.

Clayton Kershaw has faced the Giants twice in the last month and has won both games. The games have split the over/under total listed in each game as well. That trend looks to be safe, albeit a bit too easy as we look at the Thursday MLB betting card. With the Giants bullpen having an ERA in the 4’s and a Dodgers road bullpen ERA nearly as high, I’m taking the Over for the late game value when these starters are out of the game. Take the Over of 6 at Heritage as one of your Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Houston Astros vs Miami Marlins

Jose Urena has put together some fantastic results to start the season, which is why he is a surprising home underdog as we make our Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.

For the Marlins, as long as Jose Urena is throwing strikes he will be a competitive starting pitcher on the mound. Urena has started two games for Maimi after being brought out of the bullpen in May and has given up only 2 earned runs over 12 innings pitched in those two starts. His BAA against left-handers is fantastic – a subterranean .167 against southpaws over 13.2 innings pitched to start the year.

Lance McCullers starts on the road for that Astros in this game and backing him would be the obvious choice. A 2.93 FIP and 57/13 K/BB rate should have resulted in better than the 3-1 record he has compiled over 8 starts on the year. Going up against a Marlins team putting up a 14-23 record through Tuesday should also help. But this is a situati0n in which the home team is getting 1.5 runs at nearly even odds. The line shouldn’t be that skewed with Urena being halfway competent, so I am taking Miami on the run line at +1.5 -118 at Pinnacle as one of my Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.
