Our handicapper hits the road this week, but as he travels south towards the sunshine he is leaving a trail of profitable MLB picks of the day for your Tuesday baseball betting card. Read on as he breaks down two pitching matchups with definite advantages on one side.

One of the top breakout performers in the MLB starts on Tuesday night in Seattle as the Oakland A’s play on the road against the Mariners. A host of statistical trends has our MLB handicapper ready to plunk down on the visiting team even with their horrible road record.

Andrew Triggs has been a revelation for the Athletics this year and the soft-tossing, bendy-ball pitcher has all of the peripheral statistics to back up his 2.21 ERA and 5-2 win-loss record. Triggs has put up a miniscule 3.0% HR/FB rate on the year with a very low 22.8% hard hit rate, so he is inducing a lot of meaningless soft contact during his starts. Triggs also has a sidearm delivery, a trait that will create a nice split for batting average allowed. That presents itself for him in his BAA against left-handers – a stellar .149 overall and including just one hit given up on the road to lefties this year in 22 batters faced. He will likely neutralize the Seattle bats of Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager in this game.

Triggs faces Chase DeJong in this game, who was forced into the Seattle rotation due to the multiple injuries facing that pitching staff. He’s given up six earned runs in two of his three starts, and is carrying a 7/8 K/BB rate. That’s not going to get it done against a pitcher like Triggs. This line has value with Oakland on the road, but I expect it to move to that side. I’ll be taking Oakland -114 early on the moneyline at BetOnline as one of my Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants

Let’s face it, the Giants have been horrible to start the season. However, a pitching matchup presents itself on Tuesday night that gives them a great chance to take advantage of plus run line odds at home.

Ty Blach gets this start for the Giants at home against the rival Dodgers on Tuesday night, and his splits indicate that he can keep this game close until having to turn it over to the bullpen. The Dodgers have a lefty-heavy lineup, and Blach is holding left-handers to just a .150 batting average at home on the year. It will be down to Justin Turner and Yasiel Puig to bring the offense for the Dodgers. Blach also uses AT&T Park to his advantage, holding a sparkly 1.69 ERA at home through 21.1 innings pitched.

Starting for the Dodgers in this game is Rich Hill who has been battling blisters this season.  He may lose his starting job if it flares up again, but Hill’s FIP of 6.38 are another reason that he can’t be trusted in this matchup. With the Giants getting a reasonable payout on the run line with +1.5 runs, I’ll be taking them on the run line as a home underdog -125 at Heritage as another Tuesday MLB selection of the day.
