The wait is over and it's back to business as the 2016 MLB Season resumes. Although we had a good first half of the season, we aim high, and seek to have a better 2nd half and it starts tonight with Friday's MLB Picks of the Day.

Pittsbugh Pirates at Washington Natonals
Can Strasburg Remain Undefeared? At 12-0 with a 2.62 ERA, Washington starting pitcher, Stephen Strasburg, looks to keep the "L" column clear as he faces a tough Pittsburgh Pirates (46-43) team that was coming on like gangbusters towards the end of the 1st half of the MLB Season. Strasburg might have been lucky, receiving some run support, and he's certainly not the best pitcher with names like Clayton Kershaw in the mix, but to go undefeated would be a feat that nobody could ever forget. He also has Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper to back him up and any team would gladly accept those two players on their team.

Daniel Murphy
I heard something interesting on the radio last night about Murphy on a sports radio show in which the caller said that Murphy has always been the same player and has just gotten more opportunities to hit due to power behind him. I couldn't disagree more with this caller. Murphy has been one if not the best hitter in baseball since last season in the post-season when he set the home run record. Murphy has had a stellar 2016. He's managed to play his old team and flatout embarrass them. That has to be a good feeling.

Murphy does have Bryce Harper lurking behind him, but this is a player that was near the .400 mark for a good portion of the season and is currently sitting at .348 with 17 HR and 66 RBI. Murphy is on pace for a 31 HR, 119 RBI season.

He couldn't play any better and has betters player on his team than when he was a Met. This is a guy that's averaged around 11 or 12 HR and 50 to 60 RBI per season and about a .280 BA. Confidence goes a long way as Murphy is 7 for his last 17 at bats with 3 HR and 10 RBI. The power has been on the road, but Murph is still hitting .356 at home. The Nationals are big chalk on the  MLB odds, despite some really good Pittsburgh hitting for a good reason.

Getting Hot At the Right Time
Andrew McCutchen has had a miserable season at 14 HR, 38 RBI, and a .247 BA. That said, these are as good as his numbers have looked all season long as he's hitting .391 in his last 23 at-bats to go along with 2 HR and 6 RBI. This is one guy that Stephen Strasburg must be careful with.

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres
Bumgarner vs. Cashner. Play resumes at Petco Park, but the All-Star festvities are over. In fact, I don't think we're going to see all of those baseballs go over the fence that we saw when Giancarlo Sranton won the Home Run Derby. In a pitching matchup of Madison Bumgarner (10-4, 1.94 ERA) vs. Andrew Cashner (3-7, 5.40) the San Francisco Giants have to feel good as Bumgarner has dominated all season long and has been unhittable lately.

In his last 15 innings pitched, Bumgarner has allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 20 batters. It doesn't get any better than that and especially against a Padres team that's not known for their offense in a "pitcher friendly" park.

Bumgarner has provided 9 out of 10 quality outings in his last 10 starts and the other outing was boarderline. He can be counted on to give the Giants 100 pitches plus and has pinpoint control. He's never going to go less than 6 innings. This game comes down to the Giants offense scratching out a few runs against a pitcher that is very hittable and can the Giants bullpen hold down the fort if need be? All of these answers point to the answer "yes".

San Francisco is on a 4 game winning streak in which they've outscored the opponent 19-5! This means that the opposition is barely scoring a run off of the National League West Division leading Giants. San Francisco is currently leading a red hot Dodgers team by 6 1/2 games, therefore this game is very important.

Buster Posey
Aside from being the best player offensively on this squad, Posey's bat has started to wake up. He's currently hitting .292 with 11 HR and 42 RBI. Against Andrew Cashner, Posey has been dominant, hitting .429 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in 28 at-bats. Look for Posey to hit well and Bumgarner to pitch well as the Giants cash in our MLB pick.
