A whole host of aces take the mound tonight as new series begin and teams strive to make the post-season. We strive to give you the best and here are our MLB Picks of the Day.

New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Angels

Big Game For the Bombers
The New York Yankees are 7 1/2 games behind Toronto for the American League East Division lead and have lost 2 straight, but are still contenders for a wild card spot as they play the Los Angeles Angels (51-70), who have been just a simple disaster this season. The Angels recently were on an 11 game losing streak. Even though the Angels always tend to get the best of the Yankees, New York has to feel good facing the Halos as Masahiro Tanaka (9-4, 3.40 ERA) get's the start and he's been very reliable all season long despite not receiving enough run support.

A Long Season...
Just as I praise Tanaka for the way that he's pitched, he's bit somewhat ineffective lately and the Yankees need him to be at his best as this a depleted pitching staff that contains injuries and is relying on the guys from the minor league for the future.

In his last start, Tanaka allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings and was lucky enough to come up with the rare win against the lowly Tampa Bay Rays. In his last 4 starts, Tanaka has allowed 15 runs on 26 hits in just 24 1/3 innings. I look for a bounce back performance from the native of Japan. He's facing Jered Weaver, who was once one of the best pitchers in the American League until injuries tarnished his career. That said, Weaver is always capable of pitching a gem and Tanaka at his best should hold the Angels offense in check most of the time.

The "New" New York Yankees
What's not to love if you're a Yankees fan. They got rid of old overpaid veterans and have a ton of prospects that are highly touted. New York already has some of the young talent playing on Major League level in catcher Gary Sanchez and outfielder, Aaron Judge. These guys have been hitting a ton since being called up and Sanchez is playing like Johnny Bench behind the plate.

Thus far, Sanchez is hitting .360 with 5 HR and 11 RBI in just 50 at-bats and Judge is hitting.389 with 4 HR and 14 RBI in just 18 at-bats. This is no fluke. These guys are the real deal and can make an immediate impact in any game that they play in. Jered Weaver need's to proceed with caution because both of these guys are capable of going deep at any time.

Look for the inspired Yankees, who have something to play for, outplay an Angels team that's going absolutely nowhere.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres

Biggest Disappointment In Baseball?
Much more was expected from the Arizona Diamondbacks (50-71), who are going absolutely nowhere this season. This team was expected to be a possible playoff team and instead, they're already out of the post-season race.

Arizona sends another disappointment to the mound in starting pitcher Zack Greinke (11-4, 4.31 ERA). The numbers look a lot better than the way he's pitched after he decided to leave Los Angeles and go to the desert and sign a huge contract. Greinke has been ineffective since game 1 this season and Arizona can only hope that Greinke will pitch like he did in L.A. as he puts fans in the stadium and wins in the standings when effective.

The test tonight isn't difficult for Greinke if he's on his game as the San Diego Padres (51-70) are very weak offensively and this is a pitching mismatch in favor of Arizona.

Even though they possess an ineffective offense, the Padres were clicking on all cylinders last night as they defeated the D'Backs in a nailbiter, 9-8. Rookies Alex Dickerson and Travis Jankowski were the catalysts in the win as Dickerson had a bases-clearing double in the 8th inning to give the Pads the go-ahead run and Jankowski contributed with 4 hits.

Raw Talent
Speaking of Travis Jankowski, he has all of the tools except for the power to be a star in this league. He has a superb eye at the plate, get's on base, and possesses fantastic speed. The month of August has been very good to Jankowski as he's hitting .373 (22 for 59) with 16 runs, 4 doubles, 9 walks, and 9 stolen bases. Look for Jankowski to possibly be effective in this game as Greinke has only gotten a look at him twice. Jankowski has just a .263 batting average due to a poor start, but his on-base percentage is .372 and the Padres have to be happy with his progression as a major leaguer.

"Stinky Greinke"
That may be going a bit too far, but Zack Greinke isn't a popular player due to his arrogance and he really hasn't pitched well overall in Arizona despite the 11-4 record. Greinke is coming off a beating in which he allowed 9 runs on 10 hits in 1 2/3 innings to Boston. This would certainly be a red flag for this game, but he's facing the Padres and not players like Mookie Betts on Boston. Arizona is the play here.
