Our resident MLB betting odds expert gives us a betting preview in Game 3 of the ALDS between the Angels/Royals. Read this insightful handicapping article which is concluded with a MLB free pick versus the money line.

A Cinderella Story in the Making
The Royals will host the Angels on Sunday at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds, the Royals are a -135 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.0. This will be Game 3 of this ALDS in which the Royals presently hold a commanding 2-0 lead, and they will play each of the next 2 at home.

The Starting Pitchers
The Angels will go with their veteran southpaw C.J. Wilson today in an attempt to stay alive in this series. Wilson has endured an extremely disappointing season for the Angels. He’s especially struggled on the road, going a miserable 4-12 against the money, and with an unimpressive 5.31 ERA.

The Royals will go with James Shields who is their most experienced pitcher in postseason action, and the ace of the staff. The bad news is, Shields has been very shaky in 7 career postseason starts, including during the Wild Card win over Oakland.

Silencers on the Angels Bats
The Angels have managed to score a grand total of 20-runs over their last 9-games. They’ve also had just 7-hits or less in 12 of their last 14-games. That recent futility has been mind boggling, especially considering they’ve been one of the most offensively potent teams in all of baseball for the majority of this season. Putting things into perspective, the Angels are averaging 4.7 runs per game this season, and that’s even with the recent offensive slump. They must find away to get it done today, or they will be eliminated from the postseason earlier than anyone who is sane of mind would’ve possibly expected.

The Cardiac Royals
What can the Royals conceivably do for an encore? After all, they returned to the postseason after a 29-year absence, they’ve won their first 3-games, and each of those wins came in extra innings. Even the most ardent of Royals fans would be hard pressed to have predicted, their team returning home from Anaheim with a 2-0 series lead, and on the brink of sweeping the ALDS versus #1 seed Angels. However, fate in addition to destiny can be quirky aspects in sports, and both are extremely difficult to predict. The Royals seem to have both of those positive traits working for them right now.

Final Analysis
I know that James Shields hasn’t had his finest moments of his career during the postseason. However, if he’s ever going to get it right, this will be a golden opportunity to do so, against an opponent like the Angels, that can’t hit their way out of a paper bag right now. The Royals have proven in their first 3-games of the postseason, the moment isn’t too big for them, and their poise has been outstanding. Back the Royals with your MLB Pick.
