Our MLB consultant examines the totals on Saturday’s games between Pittsburgh/Washington & LA Angels/Oakland. Join us in reading his detailed analysis which includes free picks on both games.

Pirates (Liriano) vs. Nationals (Scherzer) 4:05 PM ET
Francisco Liriano has displayed excellent form during his last five starts with a 1.29 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, and just short of an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio. As a matter of fact, he had 10 strikeouts or more in three of those five outings. Liriano is 14-3 under the total on the road since the start of last season. The Pirates are 4-0 under the total in their last four and 11-1 under during the previous twelve games. Pittsburgh has allowed a paltry average of 1.2 runs per game in their last nine, and is 46-23 under the total in day games since the beginning of the 2014 MLB campaign.

The Nationals will send their ace Max Scherzer to the mound on Saturday, and he’s been every bit as good as advertised in 2015. In thirteen starts the Nationals hurler has posted a stellar 1.93 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and compiled better than an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Besides the two starting pitchers in this game being terrific this year, both bullpens have also excelled. The Pirates have a bullpen ERA of 2.32 on the road, and Washington’s relievers are at 2.44 at home. This game has all the ear marks of a low scoring affair, and that’s what I’ll opt for when making one of my MLB picks on Saturday. After shopping the sportsbooks for the best price on this total, 5Dimes provided me with exactly that.

MLB Pick: Play on the Pirates and Nationals Under 6.5 (+110) at 5Dimes

Angels (Weaver) vs. A’s (Hahn) 4:05 PM ET
Jered Weaver is 3-0 over the total in his starts at Oakland since the onset of the 2014 season. He posted a sizable 6.41 ERA and allowed 5 home runs in 19 2/3 innings during those outings. Weaver has been shaky in his last three starts overall, posting a lofty 6.64 ERA, and allowed 6 home runs in 20 1/3 innings. Since the start of the 2013 season, the Angels have gone 19-4 over the total in games played at Oakland.

Oakland has gone 5-1 over the total in their last six, 22-10 over the total at home in 2015, and 41-25-4 over the number during all games this season. They’ve also seen all four home games versus the Angels this year go over the total, and are 9-2 over the number in eleven games overall versus their AL West rival.

I like this game to play on the high side of the ledger. Pinnacle was my optimum value to make this wager.

MLB Pick: Play on the Angels and A’s Over 7.5 (+107) at Pinnacle
