This was a day in which another ace bites the dust as Jose Fernandez and the Marlins lose to the weakest hitting team in the majors in the San Diego Padres 10-1. Onto Saturday in hopes of greener pastures.
San Francisco Giants (23-13) vs. Los
Angeles Dodgers (19-18)
Early Start Alert
I really like this game and keep an eye on the starting time of 4:10 pm ET.
The Great Greinke
With a lack of aces taking the mound today, we look towards Dodgers ace, Zack Greinke (5-1, 2.35) to get us possibly rolling in the right direction.
Although Greinke and the Dodgers face a hot team in the National League West Division San Francisco Giants, Giants starter, Matt Cain (0-3, 4.35), has pitched below his standards and the Giants have given him a lack of run support during his starts.
To get Greinke at -145 in most games is a great situation. It’s an even better situation when you consider the bats that he has supporting him in the form of Dee Gordon (1 HR, 10 RBI, .328), Yasiel Puig (5 HR, 23 RBI, .308), Adrian Gonzalez (9 HR, 26 RBI), and Hanley Ramirez.
Oddly enough, the Dodgers are just 6-11 at home. Look for Greinke to carry them to a “W” be it through a pitchers duel or a blowout. Take L.A. and lay the juice.
MLB Pick: Dodgers -145 at 5 Dimes
Chicago Cubs (12-22) vs. Atlanta Braves
Fading the Cubs?
Although I’d love to fade the Cubs, Cubs starter, Jeff Samardzija (0-3, 1.62) scares me a bit as he’s can hold an opposing team to a run or possibly a shutout. Instead we’re going to take the route of choosing the total when placing our bet.
Braves starter, Ervin Santana (3-0, 2.41) is off to a super-fast start. Playing on a team such as the Braves that is known for winning, is a great benefit to Santana.
That said, he’s pitched well without the assistance. He goes deep into games and has allowed 3 runs or less in 4 of his 5 starts and has pretty much given a quality start in every outing. Although the weather should be warm, the pitcher’s momentum will be even hotter.
Looks are Deceiving
Atlanta, ranks near the bottom of the league in offense, but this is a team with good pitching and timely hitting.
They’re coming off of a 3-2 victory over Chicago on Friday in 10 innings. Freddie Freeman continues his hot hitting as he went 3 for4 with a run and an rbi to increase his batting average to a healthy.321. Chris Johnson is another player to watch for on Atlanta as he’s 6 for 12 in his last 3 games.
With the starting pitching in this game, I’m leaning towards the under as the play even though Freeman has carried a hot bat.
MLB Pick: Atlanta/Chicago Under 7 at 5 Dimes
Good luck, everyone!
