We browse the early odds board in search of betting value on Thursday's card. Read on and find two MLB picks that will maximize your profits before another week of NFL preseason games.

Nationals vs. Padres

Right-hander Edwin Jackson (3-2, 3.86 ERA, 1.57 WHIP) takes the hill for the Nationals after a decent effort against the Giants on Saturday, when he gave up one earned run on five hits (one home run) with two walks and five strikeouts in a 3-1 win. Jackson has allowed one earned run or less in two of his last three starts and the current Padres lineup is hitting just .263 against him.

Jhoulys Chacin (11-8, 4.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) will get the ball for the Padres, looking to build on a solid performance against the Dodgers last Saturday, when he allowed just one earned run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts over five innings to get a no-decision in a 6-3 loss. Chacin has an impressive 7-2 record with a decent 1.86 ERA in 12 home starts, so I'm looking at Under 8.5 at -118 MLB odds. Jackson is pitching well and Chacin has been dominant at PETCO Park.

Phillies vs. Giants

Aaron Nola (9-7, 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) will start for the Phillies after dominating the Mets on Saturday, when he gave up one earned run on two hits (one home run) and two walks with eight strikeouts across seven innings of a 3-1 win. Nola hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last 10 starts, lowering his ERA from 4.76 to 3.02. The right-hander ranks 5th in the National League in ERA and 7th with a 1.15 WHIP.

Jeff Samardzija (7-12, 4.74 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) will make his 25th start of the season for the Giants after allowing three earned runs on nine hits and one walk with six strikeouts over six innings to take a 3-1 loss against the Nationals last Saturday. Samardzija has given up at least three earned runs in six of his last seven starts and he's just 4-5 with a 4.35 ERA in 11 home starts. I'm taking the Phillies +105 with my MLB picks, as Nola is slowly but surely becoming an ace.
