Who has the starting pitching edge tonight when top-form hurlers square off in the Dodgers/Braves & A’s/Royals games? We’ll reveal our answers inside this informative MLB betting article.

Los Angeles Dodgers (Ryu) vs. Atlanta Braves (Santana) 7:10 PM ET
The Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu has been nothing short of sensational on the road in 2014. The 27-year old southpaw has gone 9-3 against the money on the road with a stellar 2.61 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. The Dodgers hurler has also gone a red-hot 5-0 against the money in his last 5 overall with a 1.90 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and compiled an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Braves starter Ervin Santana has gone 4-1 in his last 5 against the money with a very good 2.65 ERA. He’s also gone a perfect 5-0 in his last 5 at home against the money with a 2.60 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.

With all due respect to Ervin Santana, I applaud his recent efforts. However, there’s too much value to pass up here when considering the money line, and with a pitcher (Ryu) who has excelled on the road this season, in addition to being supported by a team (Dodgers) that’s superior to their opponent (Braves) at this juncture. My MLB betting edge goes to Ryu of the Dodgers, over Santana of the Braves.

Oakland A’s (Kazmir) vs. Kansas City Royals (Vargas) 8:10 PM ET
The A’s starter Scott Kazmir has enjoyed a fine season for Oakland up to this point going 17-6 (+7.30 units) against the money, while posting a shining 2.73 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP. Although, he’s not been sharp in his last 2-starts, as evidenced by his lofty 6.39 ERA in those outings. He’s also gone a dismal 1-5 against the money versus Kansas City since the start of the 2013 season while posting an unimpressive 5.17 ERA.

The Royals starter Jason Vargas has been shaky in his 2-starts since returning from the DL. In those pair of outings he posted a large 8.68 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. In 21-starts on the season he’s been solid for the most part, compiling a respectable 3.68 ERA. Since the start of the 2013 season he’s struggled in his 4-starts versus Oakland with a lofty 5.76 ERA.

Neither of these starting pitchers has been in good form during recent starts. Nor has either has done well versus tonight’s opponents since the start of last season. The total is more reflective of each pitcher’s entire body of work in 2014, and not their most recent performance lines. I like this game to be a high scoring affair, and don’t see a money line betting edge that favors either starting pitcher, so recommend betting the total at a sport book like Bodog.
