Brewers vs. Twins

Brewers reliever Brent Suter commands the hill in place of the injured Chase Anderson on Monday. It’s the soft-tossing left-handers 10th career start. Milwaukee is 3-6 SU overall, allowing 4.56 runs per game. Six outings have come on the road with the staff yielding 4 runs or more in each. The Brewers are 1-5 SU in these games.

Suter will matchup with Twins ace Ervin Santana. The All-Star is 12-7 with a 3.28 ERA. Santana’s 4.81 FIP suggests his numbers will turn south as the season comes to a close. The right-hander has recorded just two victories in his last six starts, giving up 20 earned runs on 38 hits in 39.1 innings. Santana went the distance in a 5-2 win over the Padres in his last start, giving him five complete games for the year. No other pitcher in the bigs owns more than two.

The Twins are a train wreck at Target Field behind Santana this year. They are 4-7 SU, yielding 6.09 runs per game. The team has lost six of his last seven home starts, holding a lead in just one. Two of the wins came against the lowly White Sox and A’s.

Overall, Minny is 8-19 SU at Target Field against teams with a .500 record or better. The Brewers are 10-4 SU in interleague play for our MLB picks consideration, beating up primarily on the AL East’s best this season. Milwaukee, however, is just 3-8 SU on the road since the break prior to Saturday. The bats are cold in this situation, knocking in just 3.55 runs per game. Look for Santana and the Twins to take an early lead in this one and never look back. Minny on the money line is the best bet.

Tigers vs. Pirates

Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann recorded just his second shutout in the last two years in a 2-0 win at the Yankees on Wednesday. It was a confidence-building win against one of the best batting teams in MLB. Zimmermann has been able to pound the zone the last two starts. He’s struck out 8, issued no free passes, and allowed 3 earned runs on 12 hits in 14 frames overall. Detroit is 6-1 SU in follow-up games with a starter coming off a shutout in his last effort. The staff is yielding 3.29 runs per game in this spot. Expect Zimmermann and company to have a solid outing.

Trevor Williams takes the pill for the Pirates. The sinkerballer is 4-4 with a 4.47 ERA and 3.90 FIP on the year. The Buccos have dropped seven of Williams’ last nine starts, unable to support the righty with much scoring. The team averages 3.78 runs per game and have crossed the plate 3 times or less in six in this span.

Prior to the weekend, Detroit is 9-2 SU in their last 11 games as road underdogs. The bats are leading the way, scoring 5.91 runs per game. Bettors have accrued 99 percent profit at +145 average betting odds.

Williams and Zimmermann will likely keep the contest tight and low scoring through the first half, but look for Detroit to jump on the Pirates pen late. Only the White Sox relief (6.73) owns a higher FIP than Pittsburgh’s 5.74 over the last two weeks. Tigers hold a little value here.
