The Rangers come in nine games up in the West division as they steam towards the playoffs, is there any value in backing them today on the plus money line for you MLB pick?

Texas Rangers
Martin Perez gets the start for Texas and comes in with a 4.25 ERA and 1.43 whip but a 4.85 ERA in two appearances versus Houston this season. In his two starts versus the Astros Perez was good and bad allowing just two earned runs off of four hits back in early June but more recently allowing five earned runs off of eight hits in early August. On closer look value wise I think grabbing him on the plus money line is good when we consider his counterpart today and the fact in his last two games he has been solid.

Both of those starts have been against Seattle in which he allowed a total of two earned runs off of 14 hits in 12 innings. In his last 10 starts, he has been inconsistent with some really poor outings like allowing six earned runs versus both Tampa Bay and Cleveland, but also a few solid starts like allowing just one earned run to Kansas City, Colorado, and Oakland. On the road, he is definitely had struggles this year but with a good offense behind him he has every chance to pick up the win today. Texas remains one of the best offenses in the American League and although they have not swung the bats particularly well over their last five games they have had some success against Houston's starter today which again I believe puts value on them.

Houston Astros
Doug Fister gets the start today for Houston and comes in with a 4.14 ERA and 1.37 whip but a 4.57 ERA in four starts versus Texas. Like Perez, he has been hot and cold versus the team he is facing today pitching very well against them in his first three opportunities this season allowing a total of just four earned runs in 18 innings of work. It was his last outing in which Texas thumped him for seven earned runs off of 10 hits in just three innings which really ballooned up his ERA versus them. Considering his first three starts were solid it makes sense for him at home to be the favorite today, however, he has been less than lights out his last three starts allowing 15 earned runs in about 12 innings of work, all losses for the Astros. Offensively like Texas, Houston has been subpar over their last several games but have for the most part a decent lineup up and down. What could hurt them today is that they're facing a left-hander and they have had some difficulties against southpaws this season. Houston ranks 13th in the American League hitting just .246 against them.

Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros
Odds makers have Texas at around a +120 favorite across the board. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back the Rangers at +120 at BetOnline. This is good value I think on a pretty decent pitcher in Perez versus a starter that has struggled recently in Fister. Houston needs this game more but the value is on backing Texas.
