For most of the season I have been asked to do baseball game write-up and free picks, which I hoped you have enjoyed. Stepping out today and looking strictly at totals and present reasons for more than one.

Though not a big totals player myself, I thoroughly enjoy digging deeper into a full day's card of only totals and for MLB picks really like my three choices. Please let me explain why I like each one and hope to make you a little cash also, if you choose to.

Philadelphia vs N.Y. Mets - OVER 10

We start with starting pitchers Nick Pivetta for Philadelphia and Raphael Montero for New York. Pivetta has a 6.66 ERA in six away outings and Montero has a 6.56 ERA in this three starts. I am going to presume both these pitchers will not be around long and they are supported by a Phillies bullpen that is listed 13th in the National League in ERA and the Mets are on step down at 14th. That alone should be reason to think OVER, now let's add in New York is 25-12 OVER at Citi Field and Philly is 34-17 OVER as a road underdog of +125 to +175 the last two seasons and now you see why I like this total. (Add Bonus - Consider OVER 5.5 for first five innings)

Texas vs Chic. White Sox - UNDER 9.5

After laboring wearing the crown of an ace, Chicago's Jose Quintana has gotten comfortable in new role without Chris Sale in Chi-Town and has permitted six runs in his past five starts. In three starts at home versus Texas, Quintana has given up three runs which has covered 22 innings and if he performs anywhere close to that, the left-hander can turn it over to a pretty reliable bullpen. The White Sox offense tends to be hit or miss which is about what you get from Texas starter Tyson Ross and the Rangers bullpen. But with Quintana 10-1 UNDER vs. an AL team with a team batting average of .260 or worse this season, like my chances against the MLB odds.

Seattle vs L.A.A. Angels - OVER 9

When James Paxton is on, he can shut the door on opposing team's offenses. The problem is he has yet to really develop consistency where you would feel at ease backing him and the Mariners for six or more straight starts. Paxton has an ERA of 7.31 on his past three starts. The Halos Jesse Chavez has pitched fairly well at the Big A this season and even had one good effort (one run in 5 2/3) against Seattle back in April, nevertheless, he has 5.90 ERA versus the M's when he's taken the ball in eight tries. Too tempting to pass up.
