The Cubs went to four outfielders Monday night to stop Joey Votto of Cincinnati. It did not work as he doubled anyway. I will attempt to do better than that against the baseball totals for a Tuesday.

On Monday, I was 1-1-1 on these totals with my third push in two days; however, the approach I'm taking in trying to beat the MLB odds and improve my recent 13-6 record is better than Justin Bieber trying to hunt down a fitness employee in Savannah, Ga., on Instagram. (Google it)

Rays' Drought Leads to Low Score North of the Border

As I have written about here before, with Tampa Bay leading the AL in strikeouts that is too many chances of balls not put in play that could be misplayed and runners moving on the base paths or scoring on errors. In losing eight of 10, the Rays have scored 12 total runs and been shut out four times. If Tampa Bay was facing Toronto hurler Marco Estrada (4.85 ERA) from earlier in the season, the OVER 9.5 would seem like a lock. But Estrada has finally found his sweet spot and has an ERA under 2.00 in his past four starts. With the Jays 18-5 UNDER after allowing one run or less in a win over a division rival, for MLB picks, let's take the lower score.

Cement Jungle Should Find Runs Scarce

With the Mets' Jacob deGrom (3.21 ERA) facing the Yankees' Sonny Gray (3.39), it seems safe to say there will be quite a few more people in the bar at Trump Tower in New York than on base at Yankee Stadium tonight. Both pitchers have been dialed in for some time now, and with the total at 8, this does not appear anything they cannot overcome. While both the Mets and Yankees are capable of hanging crooked numbers in several games, they have become inconsonant. For example, the Yanks are 18-9 UNDER after batting .225 or worse over a five-game span, while the Metropolitans are 19-7 UNDER vs. teams outscoring opponents by 0.5 or more runs a game in the second half of the season since last year. Only concern: the bullpens.

Dodgers' Offense Hangs White Sox Out to Dry

With Los Angeles the best team in baseball and a preposterous -360 favorite over the Chicago White Sox, the only avenue to betting success would seem to be on the total. The Dodgers have been great everywhere, and steadily averaging 5.3 runs per game at home keeps the pressure on opposing teams. It would not seem to be a good night to be the Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez (4.85) with how these Dodgers swing the bat, and a depleted-through-trades Pale Hose bullpen does not figure to put up much resistance against the oddsmakers' total of 8.5.
