It appears that the American League Central Division will be contested between the Kansas City Royals (16-8) and the Detroit Tigers (16-9) as they are far and away the two best top teams in the division,

First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. ET at Kaufman Field in Kansas City, Missouri. According to 5 Dimes Sportsbook, the Tigers are a slight -117 betting favorite and the total for the game is 8.5 runs. The Royals have come such a long way in the last year and a half, but one can't overlook the offense that the Tigers possess and Detroit has the edge with Anibal Sanchez starting.

Tons of Runs?
While both of these pitchers are capable of pitching shutouts, they have had poor starts to the season and the offenses could feast off of them today. Of course, it's a Sunday and managers have the tendency to sit some players, but we'll just have to assume that all of the top sluggers will be playing as this is a big game.

For the Royals, you know what you're going to get from Jeremy Guthrie (1-1, 5.87). He's not going to give the Royals a ton of innings. On a good day, they would be lucky to get 5 or 6 innings from him tops and he will just keep them in the game, allowing 3 to 4 runs in those 5 to 6 innings. This will leave the outcome up to the offense. He's not a guy that you're going to feel confident with if you back the Royals as your MLB picks as his record indicates. 84-101 for his career says it all.

Anibal Sanchez
For the Tigers, Sanchez has proven that he can be a reliable pitcher and has a rubber arm that can give the Tigers at least 100 pitches. Unfortunately for Detroit, he hasn't pitched well at the start of the season thus far. He's lost his last 3 decisions in 4 starts ( the other game being a no-decision), but the one thing that gives me confidence in him is his progression during the early part of the season.

In his last 2 starts, Sanchez has allowed 4 runs and 10 hits in 13 1/3 innings against the Yankees and Twins. He's going to pitch over 100 pitches without walking players and he's a strikeout pitcher. The edge clearly goes to Detroit to even up the series because good pitching wins games and they clearly have that with Sanchez.

The Best Player In Baseball
Nobody can say anything different. Miguel Cabrera has been the best hitter in baseball for the past decade and as far as we know, he's done it clean.

Last season, he had a bit of a power outage, but what makes Cabrera so good at the plate is his ability to see the baseball. For the season, Cabrera is off to another hot start. He's hitting .348 with 5 HR and 17 RBI. This is a player that's 5 home runs away from the magical 400 and possesses a .320 lifetime batting average. Guthrie will have no answer for Cabrera as he attempts to pitch around him. We should also see J.D. Martinez back in the lineup this afternoon. Martinez leads the Tigers with 6 home runs.

It's tough for any team to defeat the Royals on their home turf, but the Tigers have the offense, the good MLB odds, and the superior pitching. Make Detroit you pick in this game.
