Two underrated pitchers take the mound when the Detroit Tigers visit the Tampa Bay Rays. Jordan Zimmermann for the Tigers and Jake Odorizzi for Tampa Bay. Free MLB pick inside.

Betting Preview
MLB odds experts have come out with a total of 8 for this game. For my MLB pick I'm going to back under the total because both of these pitchers are a lot better than their current numbers and I look for both of them have a quality start.

Detroit Tigers
Jordan Zimmermann gets the start for Detroit and comes in with a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 whip with the Tigers hitting .269 as a team which ranks sixth in the major leagues. Zimmermann has not been pitching well recently twice allowing seven earned runs in his last four games with those games surprisingly at home. However, he is much better than those bad outings and although he has been knocked around at times this season this is a good spot for him to bounce back and have a good start. On the road he has been exceptional with a 1.96 ERA and batters hitting .247 against him, as well in his last road start he was outstanding allowing one earned run off of four hits in eight innings versus the Kansas City Royals. Don't expect for him to allow a lot of runs today against a subpar offense in Tampa Bay. At the plate Detroit is one of the better hitting teams in baseball ranking in the top 10 in some of the most important categories like total bases, OPS, and hits per game. They also rank 10th in runs per game averaging 4.73 per contest but all these averages drop a bit on the road as well as the fact they strikeout quite a bit ranking 22nd in the major leagues in strikeouts per game.

Tampa Bay Rays
Jake Odorizzi takes the mound for Tampa Bay and comes in with a 3.93 ERA and 1.22 whip with Tampa Bay hitting just .240 as a team which ranks 25th in the major leagues. Odorizzi, like Zimmermann, has seen his struggles this year but most of those have been on the road where he has a 4.93 ERA and batters hitting .270 against him. At home he has been stellar with a 3.04 ERA and batters hitting just .213 against him. In his last home start he held the San Francisco Giants the just one earned run off of four hits in six innings and against Detroit he has pitched well his last three times facing them with a 1.93 ERA allowing just four earned runs in just over 18 innings. At the plate Tampa Bay ranks as one of the worst offenses in the major leagues ranking 25th in runs per game, 17th in OPS, and 28th in strikeouts per game. They have been decent at hitting the long ball this season but that might be a tough task today against a pitcher in Zimmermann that doesn't give up a lot of home runs. Even with some tough numbers he hasn't given one up in his last three starts.
