After putting up plenty of hits and runs yesterday combined I am looking for much of the same today when the Detroit Tigers take on the Texas Rangers.  Even with both of these pitchers having pretty decent numbers on the year the total has been set a bit high which reflects what I think will be a high scoring affair.

MLB odds makers came out with the total of 8.5 for this match up and I first glance it looks a bit on the high side.  Both pitchers come in with ERA's under 4.00 and the higher juice right now across the board is on the under.  As far as my play, this just means for my over the total MLB pick I will get some value with the +100 hanging at at Pinnacle Sports.

Detroit Tigers
Daniel Norris comes into this matchup with 3.88 ERA, 1.20 whip, 42 strikeouts, and a 2-2 record.  He has been pretty solid for the Tigers and has pitched well recently with only one bad outing in his six starts for Detroit.  His ERA on the road has been pretty decent as well but he is facing a very good offense today in Texas that has seen more lefties at the plate this season than any other team.

Detroit ranks 15th in runs scored per game at 4.28, third in OPS at .748, and first in batting average hitting .271 as a team.  Yesterday they put up seven runs and 12 hits and hung on for a 7-4 win.  Even being out of the playoff hunt they are still a formidable team that should come in pretty loose to try and spoil other teams chances in their quest for the post season.  They should have some good momentum from yesterday coming into today.

Texas Rangers
Cole Hamels comes into the game with a 3.56 ERA, 1.21 whip, 199 strikeouts, and an 11-8 record.  He has been a great acquisition for the Rangers and has won his last five decisions out of seven starts.  He has only faced Detroit once this season pitching well allowing two earned runs off of eight hits in six innings.  I expect him to out and pitch a good game to get the Rangers out of their recent funk but I also expect the Tigers to get at least a few runs on the board.

Texas ranks fourth in the league in runs scored per game at 4.57, 10th in OPS at .736, and 10th in batting average hitting .257 as a team.  They are in a little bit of a slump but had a little life in the ninth inning of yesterday's game that I expect to carry over.  They are one of the best hitting home teams in all of baseball with most of their major statistics improving in Arlington.  Their OPS goes from .692 on the road to .783 at home.  They have a lot of solid hitters in the lineup and should break out of their mini slump today versus the Norris and the Tigers.

For my over the total MLB pick of the day I am going to back these two teams to have some quality at bats and produce some runs.  With the odds makers setting this total arguably a little higher than it probably should be I believe they agree with my assessment and anticipate more runs than most people probably expect, back the over.
