It will be pretty difficult to top Wednesday as Clayton Kershaw threw the best no-hitter in baseball history, but there are several games out there in which we can make a profit on with our betting picks.

Philadelphia Phillies (32-38) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (39-33): A Favorable Matchup
Even though the Philadelphia Phillies have won 7 out of their last 10 games, St. Louis has also won 8 out of their last 10 games, and have a decisive edge with Shelby Miller (7-5, 3.42) taking the mound.

Miller has really stepped his game up as of late. In his last 2 starts, he’s allowed just 1 earned run in 15 2/3. He’ll need to be at his best as the Phillies are coming off of a 10-5 pounding of the Atlanta Braves and pitcher Aaron Harang.

The Phillies really benefitted from yesterday afternoon’s game, as Harang was kept in the game much longer than he should’ve been. The Fightin Phils scored 7 runs in the 1st 2 innings alone as the core of Utley, Howard, Brown, Byrd, and Mayberry Jr. battered Harang batter after batter. Tonight’s game won’t be as easy.

St. Louis is coming off of a tough 3-2 loss to the Mets and not much can be taken away from this game except a home run from leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter. St. Louis, who possess a fairly imposing offensive lineup, have been struggling all season offensively. Yadier Molina is hitting .284, but his average has taken a nosedive from earlier in the season and Matt Holiday has been inconsistent.

Matt Adams
He went hitless in yesterday’s game, but one player that the Cards can rely on is Matt Adams. The power numbers are fairly average, but Adams comes up with timely hits. He’s hitting .350 in the month of June, and .327 on the season with 6 HR and 23 RBI. St. Louis has a much better offense than the numbers indicate and with Miller’s hot pitching as of late, they should dispose of the Phillies quite easily.

Boston Red Sox (34-38) vs. Oakland Athletics (44-28)Better Late Than Never
The disappointing defending World Champion Boston Red Sox face one of the best team in the majors in the Oakland Athletics and the Red hot Scott Kazmir (8-2, 2.05).

When Kazmir came up with the Mets, he was supposed to be an elite pitcher, but due to injuries and underperforming, it never worked out for the veteran. Finally, Kazmir is pitching like the ace that people had expected at the beginning of his career.

For the entire season, Kazmir has allowed 3 runs or less in 13 out of 14 starts. In the other start, he allowed just 4 runs against the Mariners. This is a pitcher that’s going to go out there and pitch anywhere from 6 to 9 innings of quality baseball and leave the outcome of the game up to the reliable Oakland offense.

Josh Donaldson
One player that hasn’t been so reliable has been Josh Donaldson. Donaldson is just 11 for 65 in the month of June and has seen his batting average fall from .284 to .254.

Donaldson is one of the heavy hitters in lineup that contains the likes of Brandon Moss and Yoenis Cespedes. The A’s need Donaldson to snap out of this funk if they’re to contend for any type of title. Luckily for Oakland, they’re a team that always finds ways to win and have been able to survive without Donaldson’s help.

Steadily Creeping Up
It’s definitely obvious that this isn’t the same Boston team. That said, the Red Sox have won 6 out of their last 10 games and 3 straight games. This is a team with a never say die attitude and can’t be underestimated. Two reasons why Boston has played so well are their number 1 and 2 hitters in their lineup in Brock Holt (.329) and Xander Bogaerts (6 HR, 19 RBI, .273 BA). Both players have really given this team a new identity with Jacoby Ellsbury signing with the Yankees. Regardless, this game comes down to pitching and Oakland has the edge.
