There’s a limited amount of MLB action today with average pitching. One pitcher that stands out is Clayton Kershaw as a -248 favorite against the lowly Pads. Time to make the betting picks.

San Diego Padres (40-51) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (51-42)
Too Alluring To Resist
When I see Clayton Kershaw’s (10-2, 1.85) name on the list of starting pitchers for the day, my eyes light up like dollar signs. This is because he’s the best pitcher in the game and is pitching at his very best at the moment.

In his last 4 starts going back to the no-hitter, Kershaw hasn’t relinquished a single run. He’s won his last 7 starts and in those starts he’s allowed 4 runs in his last 52 innings. Kershaw reminds me of former L.A. great Orel Hersheiser; when he’s in the groove, he’s simply unhittable.

What makes this game more appealing is that the Dodgers are facing a Padres team that couldn’t hit the side of a barn. The Pads rank 30th in all major offensive statistical categories. They’re hitting an abysmal .216 as a team and their on base percentage is .276. There are actual major league teams with a better batting average than the Padres on-base percentage.

What you have here is the best in Kershaw against the worst in San Diego. Kershaw needs 2 runs from his offense at best to win this game. With a lineup that contains the likes of Dee Gordon, Yasiel Puig, Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, and Matt Kemp for the Los Angeles Dodgers, this game should be a “slam dunk” for the Dodgers.

My 2 unit picks have been hurting me despite my furious comeback, but I’m not going to let that stop me because I have confidence that at the end of the season, we’ll be well on the plus side. I’m doubling up on L.A. and Mr. Kershaw.

New York Yankees (46-44) vs. Cleveland Indians (44-46)
Right Back To the Well
I took the Yankees as an underdog yesterday. It took 14 innings, but they won the game. I feel confident about this team when Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixiera are playing well as I think that they are game changers.

Last night, Ellsbury hit the winning home run in the 14th inning to give the Yankees the 5-4 victory and Mark Teixiera pounded out 2 home runs. If you select the Yankees today with David Phelps (3-4, 4.01) against inferior pitching, you get them at a very favorable betting price.

For some odd reason, he Mark Teixiera doesn’t hit in the .280’s and .290’s like he used to. As a matter a fact, he’s can barely hit .240. I’ve seen him in person practice swinging and in my opinion, he’s swinging for the fences every time and that hinders his ability to get on base. Although this is true, Tex has been invaluable to a Yankees team with absolutely no power. They’re not the San Diego Padres, but aside from Teixiera, maybe Brian McCann is the only pure power hitter.

On the season Mark Teixiera is hitting .241 with 17 HR and 47 RBI. A healthy Teixiera means wins for the Yanks and trouble for the opposition. Cleveland starter T.J. House (1-2 ,4.24) as a betting favorite is an absolute joke.

MLB Pick: Yankees +116 at 5 Dimes
