New York Yankees (33-31) at Seattle Mariners (34-31): The After-effects
After getting a serious beat-down by Masahiro Tanaka, I’m not so sure that Seattle will recover so quickly, as Tanaka was nearly un-hittable. There could be a lingering effect into tonight’s game. The only positive that Seattle can take away from yesterday’s beating is that Robinson Cano finally got off the number 2 for home runs as he hit his 3rd home run of the season in the 9th inning. The game showed just how weak an offensive squad that Seattle really is.
I don’t know if Mark Teixiera will ever hit for average again, and I highly doubt it, but he provides something that the Yankees sorely miss and that’s power. Yesterday, Teixiera hit a 3-run bomb that was the key hit in New York’s 4-2 win over Seattle. Teixiera is definitely locked in.
The Reason For the Signing
Although he’s very streaky, Jacoby Ellsbury is showing people why the Yanks unloaded a lot of loot in his direction as he’s also locked-in, and making fantastic contact with the baseball.
Ellsbury is currently on a 15 game hitting streak and is hitting .390 in the month of June. With weak pitching in tonight’s game, Ellsbury is a major threat with his speed, bat, and confidence right back where it was at the beginning of the season. The Yankees look like a live underdog in this game.

Chicago Cubs (26-37) at Pittsburgh Pirates (31-34): Finally Got Runs Support
For Jeff Samardzija (2-5 ,2.54), 2 runs or more from the Cubs offense is receiving run support.
In his last outing, he finally got a sufficient amount of run support by his bottom-feeding club to win a ball game; 5 runs to be exact. The Cubs go into this game as the inferior baseball team, but a shot to win because Samardzija is scheduled to pitch.
Pittsburgh hasn’t been the same team as last year, and is beatable, but the Pirates are at home, and have won 6 out of their last 10 games. (They’re kind of in the same boat as Cincinnati; two teams that were playing for the wild card spot last year, and can’t reach the .500 plateau this season.) The Pirates have one of the best defensive outfields in the game and something that the Reds don’t have.
Even though he’s the reigning MVP in the National League, some fans don’t realize just how good a player that Andrew McCutchen is.
He’s a definite 5-tool player and can very well be the best defensive player in the game. This is a player with power, speed, and good decision-making skills.
McCutchen has been on fire as of late as his numbers indicate. He has 10 home runs , 35 RBI,.318 BA, 8 SB, and a .434 OBP% for the season. McCutchen draws a lot of walks because he has a good eye, and opposing pitchers fear him. They have a right to fear him. In the last week alone, McCutchen is hitting .500 and has 4 HR and 9 RBI. Jeff Samardzija will be tested when facing this right-handed hitter.
Although Samardzija is a good pitcher, he’s on a very poor team. We can’t count on him to get sufficient run support and Pittsburgh has the potential to hit off of him. Take the Bucs as the light betting favorites for your MLB picks.
