With the action split between the afternoon and the evening, we're in for a full day of MLB on Thursday. The MLB odds are starting to finalize and we've come up with a number of picks that we feel most confident in.

Atlanta Braves (Floyd) vs. Washington Nationals (Zimmermann)
Covered by Ron Patrick

The Braves are now only a game above .500 after this recent three-game losing streak. The Nationals have taken advantage and now hold the lead in the NL East, with their sound home record (21-15) helping tremendously so far this season.

Jordan Zimmermann (5-3, 2.98 ERA) is starting to find his best form again and it's not like Atlanta's Gavin Floyd (1-2, 2.98 ERA) has struggled either. It's a great pitching matchup tonight but one that Ron thinks Zimermmann and the Nationals will win. Let's see if Washington can extend their cushion in the division.

Pick: Nationals -141

Boston Red Sox (Peavy) vs. Oakland Athletics (Kazmir)
Covered by Ron Patrick

While Scott Kazmir (8-2, 2.05 ERA) has been nothing short of sensational in his first season for the Athletics, Boston's Jake Peavy hasn't been anywhere near his best. Peavy is 1-4 with a 4.53 ERA so far in 2014.

The Red Sox may have won three straight coming into this battle, but the Athletics have the MLB's best record (44-28) and they've also been enjoying that winning feeling with two straight victories. The baseball betting odds board reveals Oakland as a -160 favorite and Ron really believes in them in this situation. So much so that he's going with a run-line selection.

Pick: Athletics -1.5 (+140)

Toronto Blue Jays (Hutchison) vs. New York Yankees (Phelps)
Covered by Jeff Grant

Toronto's ridiculously good play wasn't going to last forever. The Blue Jays have fallen off the pace lately, going 3-7 over their last 10 games, so their lead in the AL East has dwindled to only 2.5 games. Who's in second place? That would be the Yankees, who will be looking for their third consecutive victory.

Drew Hutchison (5-4, 3.62 ERA) has settled into a nice groove and will be aiming to help Toronto improve on their 21-15 road record. Jeff doesn't like the chances of that happening though, instead deciding he likes the value on David Phelps and the Yankees. Phelps had one of his best outings of the year his last time out.

Pick: Yankees +102

Cincinnati Reds (Bailey) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Locke)
Covered by Jeff Grant

The Pirates aren't doing themselves any favors in this series with the Reds, with Pittsburgh now at 34-37 on the season. That puts them eight games back in the division. Cincinnati has won three straight and seven of their last ten, helping them pull to within 6.5 games of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central.

This game had already started at time of writing, with Jeff Locke and Homer Bailey on the mound, and Jeff has added the Reds as small road favorites to his collection of sports betting picks.

Pick: Reds -105

Kansas City Royals (Duffy) vs. Detroit Tigers (Sanchez)
Covered by Jeff Grant

Here's another early game, one that features Anibal Sanchez and the Tigers and Danny Duffy and the scorching-hot Royals. Kansas City has now won 10 straight games, a stunning run that has vaulted them into the top spot in the AL Central. The Royals, however, come into today's game as underdogs in the MLB betting lines.

Jeff made his pick in favor of Detroit here, foreseeing a good showing out of Sanchez (3-2, 2.44 ERA). Will the Tigers get it done at home?

Pick: Tigers -150
