Since the MLB schedule is a little lighter today, we've got to make sure we're extra diligent when making our top baseball betting picks. What do our cappers have to say about Thursday's slate of games?

New York Yankees (Whitley) vs. Seattle Mariners (Elias)
Covered by Ron Patrick
This is more like it from the Yankees. They've won each of the first two games of this series at Safeco Field, and have a chance to get the sweep tonight.

Two relatively unknown pitchers in Roenis Elias (5-4, 3.64 ERA) and Chase Whitley (1-0, 2.42 ERA) will take the mound, though both have been pitching at a high level as of late. That would explain why we see a low total of seven runs on the board.

As this is the second time around that New York will get a look at Elias, Ron believes the road team will fare better at the plate. He's siding with the Yankees as the MLB betting underdogs in the late game.

Free MLB Pick: Yankees +108

Chicago Cubs (Samardzija) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Volquez)
Covered by Jeff Grant
Jeff Samardzija rebounded from an awful effort in Milwaukee to pitch seven innings of solid ball (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K) in a home win over Miami five days ago. He's now 2-5 with a 2.54 ERA on the season.

For Pittsburgh, Edinson Volquez will get the start. Volquez has been solid lately despite his overall earned run average of 4.27, and will hope to help Pittsburgh improve their 19-16 record at home in 2014.

Thing is, Chicago has done well following losses recently and so Jeff thinks the Cubs as underdogs are the right side.

Free MLB Pick: Cubs +108

Cleveland Indians (Tomlin) vs. Boston Red Sox (Lester)
Covered by Jeff Grant
It's a wide open race in the AL Central, now that the Tigers have cooled off in a big way. Only 3.5 games separate first place from last place, so Cleveland knows how important it is to pick up wins right now.

They'll be on the road at Fenway tonight taking on the Red Sox as underdogs in the MLB odds. Boston will have left-hander Jon Lester (6-7, 3.52 ERA) pitching, with Cleveland turning to Josh Tomlin, who's 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA.

There's no doubt the Indians are the hotter team right now, despite two consecutive losses, so Jeff is putting his faith in Cleveland to come through for backers at a very attractive price for one of his baseball picks.

Free MLB Pick: Indians +135

Milwaukee Brewers (Lohse) vs. New York Mets (Niese)
Covered by Jeff Grant
The Brewers remain firmly entrenched in the top spot in the NL Central, thanks to equally good records at home (19-13) and on the road, where they're 20-14.

Milwaukee will try to keep their luck on the road going when they do battle with Jonathon Niese, and the Mets. Niese has been excellent for New York, going 3-3 with a 2.68 ERA so far in 2014. Milwaukee needs a good start out of Kyle Lohse (7-2, 3.27 ERA) this evening.

Despite the fact that two solid hurlers will take the bump, Jeff is looking for the 'over' to cash. New York has been involved in a lot of cashed tickets for the 'over' lately – will it happen again tonight?

Free MLB Pick: 'Over' 7

Detroit Tigers (Scherzer) vs. Chicago White Sox (Sale)
Covered by Joe Catalano
This is the best pitching duel of the day, featuring Chris Sale and Max Scherzer, two high-strikeout machines who will try to out-do one another in the Windy City.

Sale has been ridiculous this season, sporting a perfect 5-0 record to go with a 2.06 ERA, while Scherzer hasn't been too shabby at all, going 7-2 with a 3.38 ERA. Chicago has more momentum at the moment though, winning two straight, with Detroit having gone 2-8 over their last 10.

Where's the most value in this game? Well, as good as Sale has been, it's rare to get Scherzer and the Tigers at a plus price, so Joe is on Detroit to get back on the winning side tonight.

Free MLB Pick: Tigers +105
