Some top-tier pitchers, including Tanaka and Bumgarner, take the mound for their respective teams today. We have finalized our MLB picks for Thursday's day and night matchups, so come check out what our handicappers have to say about the upcoming action.

St. Louis Cardinals (Wacha) vs. Kansas City Royals (Ventura)

Covered by Willie Bee
The Cardinals finally stopped the bleeding with an important extra-innings win last night. St. Louis, four games behind Milwaukee for the first seed in the NL Central, now need a quality start out of Michael Wacha (4-3, 2.45 ERA) to keep momentum going.

Kansas City will have Yordano Ventura pitching, with the exciting young talent making his first start in close to two weeks due to shoulder issues. Willie is going against St. Louis and will be siding with Ventura and the Royals at an attractive price at home.

MLB Pick: Royals +105

Oakland Athletics (Pomeranz) vs. New York Yankees (Tanaka)
Covered by Ron Patrick and Ross Benjamin
One of the hotter teams in the MLB right now is Oakland, who have reeled off five straight wins ahead of this afternoon's clash with Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees. Thing is, the Athletics have been playing at a high level all year long, as evident by their 37-22 overall record.

The Yankees, meanwhile, have lost four straight to fall to an even 29-29 on the year. Two different recommended plays have been posted to SBRForum, with Ron taking Oakland to win and Ross liking Tanaka to guide New York to the win.

MLB Pick: Ron: Athletics +158 // Ross: Yankees -160

Philadelphia Phillies (Kendrick) vs. Washington Nationals (Fister)
Covered by Willie Bee
After a long rain delay and extra innings, it was the Nationals that emerged victorious last night, which in turn pushed them above .500 (29-28) for the season. Washington is now 18-15 at home, with Doug Fister (3-1, 3.34 ERA) hoping he can help add another win to that tally.

The Phillies are in a rut at the moment, having lost five straight and seven of their last ten to fall to 24-33 overall. Willie feels it's in everyone's best interest to stick with the better performing team and is taking a chance on Washington to win by two or more runs this afternoon.

MLB Pick: Nationals -1.5 (+115)

Los Angeles Angels (Skaggs) vs. Houston Astros (Peacock)
Covered by Jeff Grant
Tyler Skaggs has a tough act to follow. Garrett Richards was masterful in yesterday's 4-0 road win for the Angels, and now it's Skaggs' turn to impress. He's had some terrific moments this season, but his overall numbers (4-3, 4.14 ERA) don't blow you away.

For Houston, it's Brad Peacock's turn in the rotation. Peacock is 1-4 with a 4.76 ERA and will have his hands full with an Angels team that just got Josh Hamilton back from injury. Even with Mike Trout banged up, Jeff believes Los Angeles is the right side in this MLB betting matchup.

MLB Pick: Angels -129

Baltimore Orioles (Tillman) vs. Texas Rangers (Lewis)
Covered by Jeff Grant
Neither Colby Lewis (4-5, 5.44 ERA) or Chris Tillman (5-2, 4.63 ERA) have done much to inspire confidence this season, making it tough to know where the best baseball betting value lies in tonight's matchup in Arlington.

Texas comes in at 29-30 overall and 13-15 at home, while Baltimore is 30-27 overall and a very respectable 19-15 on the road. Tillman has had success against AL West opponents recently, so Jeff is liking the Orioles to take care of business as underdogs.

MLB Pick: Orioles +100
