With a small number of games on the board, we've got to make sure we really kick it up a notch with our research in order to find the best value out there. Our top MLB picks for Thursday night have been made public – who do our cappers fancy the most?

Los Angeles Angels (Shoemaker) vs. Boston Red Sox (De La Rosa)
Covered by Willie Bee
Tonight the Red Sox, losers of four straight, will host the Angels, who have won three in a row to push their advantage in the division to one-and-a-half games. LA comes in having gone a solid 34-74 on the road.

Rubby De La Rosa starts for Boston and he's gone 4-4 with a 3.79 ERA on the season. He looked really shaky in his latest start, however, allowing nine hits and six earned runs in four innings at home against Houston.

As for Matt Shoemaker, he's 11-4 with a 3.84 ERA thus far, after allowing only four hits and two runs in Texas five days ago. As of now the MLB odds are favoring Shoemaker and the Angels on the road, and ultimately Willie thinks they're the right side on this occasion.

MLB Pick: Angels -120

San Diego Padres (Ross) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (Kershaw)
Covered by Ron Patrick and Jeff Grant
There's no better pitching matchup out there than this one. Oh boy, this is going to be good.

Clayton Kershaw and Tyson Ross have been two of the most dominant starters in the majors this season, but obviously Kershaw has been in a league on his own. The left-hander is 14-3 with a 1.86 ERA this season and this is a great matchup for him at home against one of the worst offenses in the league.

Ross owns an excellent 2.70 ERA despite his even (11-11) win-loss record, but the Dodgers have some powerful bats, so the right-hander will have to be extra careful with his pitch selection tonight. Both Ross and Jeff think LA is the play, with Ron going as far as to back them on the run-line.

MLB Pick: Ron: Dodgers -1.5 (+105) // Jeff: Dodgers -220

San Francisco Giants (Bumgarner) vs. Chicago Cubs (Wood)
Covered by Ross Benjamin
Earlier today, the Cubs and Giants were set to finish their rained out game, but the focus here is on the nightcap, which features Travis Wood and Madison Bumgarner as the starting pitcher.

We'll start with Wood, who's gone 7-10 with a 4.86 ERA. He has been a little more reliable as of late, but the overall inconsistency to his form has hurt the Cubs. Wood is opposed by left-hander Madison Bumgarner, who's 13-9 with a 3.14 ERA. Bumgarner has had some of his best stuff of the season in recent outings.

San Francisco has a lot more to play for right now and they also have the clear edge in the pitching matchup. As a result, we have to agree with Ross's call to side with a Giants road win.

MLB Pick: Giants -159

Atlanta Braves (Teheran) vs. Cincinnati Reds (Holmberg)
Covered by Jeff Grant
David Holmberg was absolutely shellacked in his season debut for the Reds last week. He gave up seven hits and five earned runs over 2.2 innings, giving him a 16.88 ERA after his first appearance in 2014.

The Braves will put the ball in the glove of Julio Teheran, a right-hander who's gone 11-9 with a 3.06 ERA. The road team could really use a great start out of Teheran, who allowed only two earned runs in his latest start at home versus Oakland.

After that kind of implosion from Holmberg, it's hard not to like the look of the OVER with tonight's MLB picks. That's where Jeff is turning his attention to close out his Thursday night.

MLB Pick: OVER 8 at Bet365
