If Zack Cozart had started on Monday, we would have almost certainly nailed both of our prop picks. However, a winning day is a winning day, so for Thursday’s short slate, I am going right back to the well with two more prop picks from Bovada sportsbook.
Our lone win on Monday came thanks to Josh Donaldson going hitless and I am hoping for a similar outcome on Thursday. The Blue Jays are up against Lance McCullers and with Donaldson struggling at the plate recently, a matchup with McCullers is likely not going to help anything.
Donaldson has a .233 average against righties this season. He has a 26.1 strikeout rate against them as well and his BABIP falls over 30 points to .273 over 138 plate appearances against righties this season.
While the sample size is small, Donaldson owns a .217 average since June 1 and he has one hit in his last 32 plate appearances.
Combine all this against a guy in McCullers who is sitting down righties with great regularity this season and Donaldson is another great fade here on Thursday night.
While there is a good amount of chalk on the under at -175, it is worthwhile tonight with Donaldson in such a big slump. Add the under to your MLB Picks on Thursday.Free MLB Pick: UNDER 2 ½ (-175)Best Line Offered: at Bovada Will Steve Souza record a hit?
Over in Tampa tonight the Rays are welcoming the struggling multi-millionaire, David Price to the Trop, and thanks to Kevin Cash being on the ball tonight, he already has his lineup ready to go.
Unfortunately, Corey Dickerson is out of the lineup tonight, so we can’t take advantage of the props Bovada has listed on him tonight. However, because of a southpaw being on the hill for the Red Sox, Steve Souza has ascended to the top of the order tonight.
This should help us a lot tonight against Price. Souza doesn’t have much power against lefties, but he does have a strong .276 average against them this season over 99 plate appearance. Most of those are singles and doubles, which is all we need tonight to cash a -150 play on Souza to record a hit.
Souza has also been red hot over the last few weeks. He owns a .295 average and a .376 wOBA since June 18, which are his last 65 plate appearances. Even though he hasn’t been great at home against southpaws, considering righties have a .328 wOBA against Price, I’m not worried. The Red Sox lefty has been even worse on the road against righties, so I love this play tonight.Free MLB Pick: Yes (-150)Best Line Offered: at Bovada
