Sports handicapper Ian Cameron takes a look at some of the Overnight Lines for MLB action on Saturday. Check out his MLB picks for three of the games.

Miami Marlins vs. San Francisco Giants
We have ‘bet on’ vs. ‘bet against’ pitching elements in play in Saturday’s Marlins/Giants affair. Jose Fernandez has a very bright future ahead of him and the Marlins ace has looked healthy and dominant early on in 2016. Fernandez has yielded just 7 runs in 16.2 innings over his first three starts and a dominant ratio of 8 walks to 27 strikeouts. His one previous road start this season was against the NY Mets in which he gave up just a single run in 5 innings and he notched a win in his lone start against San Francisco last season.

The Giants are struggling at the plate being held to 2 runs or less in four of their last five games during their current 5 game losing streak heading into Friday night and getting their offense back on track against Fernandez and his quality arsenal will not be an easy task. On the flip side, Jake Peavy has been hit extremely hard early in the season allowing 14 runs in as many innings pitched along with a whopping and alarming 28 hits in those 14.2 innings. Peavy is an aging pitcher with diminished stuff and he isn’t fooling many hitters these days.  Miami should own edge and the Marlins offer value for MLB picks as a moderate road favorite.

Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros
I predicted we may see a higher scoring series earlier this week in a previous article looking ahead to the weekend and this pitching matchup may be advantageous to both lineups in this game. Clay Buchholz had a rough first couple starts but was able to bounce back in his last start against Toronto with 6.2 innings of shutout baseball but the Jays haven’t been hitting in recent days so that performance has to be taken with a grain of salt. His walk rate is still high and his swings and misses along with strikeout rate are not very high so I have concerns that Buchholz may not quite be back on track.

Mike Fiers is one of many Astros starters that has performed poorly here in April. He’s allowed 12 runs in 16.2 innings over three starts this season and he’s had problems keeping the ball in the park surrendering 6 home runs in those outings and that could be a problem for him against the Red Sox. It would not surprise me to see a fair share of runs scored between these two teams.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Rubby De La Rosa is not a pitcher I want my $$ on these days. He is a fringe arm with this Arizona team and he has been roughed up in the first few weeks of the season allowing 10 runs on 12 hits and 2 home runs in 10.2 innings in a pair of starts against the Chicago Cubs and LA Dodgers and the D-Backs went 0-2 in those games.

Juan Nicasio will counter for the Pittsburgh Pirates and other than a rough outing against Detroit which was against a good AL lineup in a tough ballpark, he fared well in NL competition against St. Louis and Milwaukee in his other two starts allowing just 4 runs in 12 innings combined. He will be familiar with Arizona and their home ballpark of Chase Field from his days with the Colorado Rockies which should benefit him here. I’m looking to fade De La Rosa given his poor current form and I think the Pirates should be able to emerge victorious in this game and laying the small price on the MLB odds board with them is worthy of a wager.
