Our handicapper cherry picks the best totals on the MLB odds board for Wednesday night, making it easy for you to fill out your MLB wagering card after the slate of matinees are over.

Seattle Mariners vs Pittsburgh Pirates
The Mariners have about five days to get their act together, or they could be pieced out and sold off like a butchered hog by the trade deadline. Luckily for them, they have won 5 of their last 7 games and their offense has come to life at just the right time. They face a righty in Gerrit Cole on Wednesday night, and although Cole is carrying a 2.99 ERA into this game, the Mariners favor right-handed starters and average 5.3 runs per game off of them and bat at a .271 clip. The Mariners also average 7.1 runs per game in interleague play this year.

If the Mariners favor righties then the Pirates favor lefties just as much, as they average 5.4 runs per game against southpaws this year. The Pirates have played in a lot of high-scoring games at home, with the O-U going 32-17 favoring the Over on the season.

With a total sitting at just 7.5 at books such as BookMaker, the line looks to be a little too low for offenses that are clicking and the value here is on the Over.

Colorado Rockies vs Baltimore Orioles
After a hot start to the season on offense, the Orioles have gone an incredible 14 games in a row cashing the Under, dating back to July 9th. Some of that can be blamed on some stellar pitching though and one of the best bullpens in the league, who carry a 2.81 ERA at home. On Wednesday night they’ll face Jon Gray, who has put up a 1.33 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over his last three starts.

Then there is Colorado, who averages exactly one run less on offense away from Coors Field, a result that has led to a 19-30 O-U record favoring the Under on the road.

I’d like to think this pick is the result of some really deep analysis, but when you see a team cash 14 Unders in a row you just tail that trend until it is time to get off.

Los Angeles Angels vs Kansas City Royals
In this matchup, we have a convergence of trends and hot pitchers as the Angels continue to waste the prime of Mike Trout’s career. The Angels struggle against left-handing pitching and face K.C.’s Danny Duffy in this game, who has put up a 3.17 ERA and 1.01 WHIP on the year. Now Duffy averages just under 6 innings per start, which is fine when your bullpen ERA is 3.39 as well. The Angels O-U performance against lefties is just 9-17 on the year and strongly favoring the Under.

While Kansas City has been cold in their last seven games by only scoring 2.4 runs per game, it is the performance of Angel pitcher Matt Shoemaker lately that has my attention. After a terrible start to the season in April, Shoemaker has posted ERA’s starting in May of 3.28, 2.14, and 3.55. It’s been the occasional struggle against a hot team interspersed within performances giving up less than 3 earned runs all year. This matchup with Kansas City doesn’t have me concerned.

The betting public isn’t too concerned either, and after this game opened with a total of 8.5, the total has taken a dive to 7.5 runs at Heritage. Finding an 8 out there is still possible, though, so I’m taking Under 8 at -120 while I still can.
