The Mariners are in hot pursuit of the Wild Card position and tonight they have a crucial game versus the Angels at LA. Our expert handicapper checks the MLB Odds and provides his exclusive pick.

Seattle Mariners vs LA Angels
The Seattle Mariners and LA Angels continue Game 2 of this early week set. The Mariners won last night by a score of 3-2, extending the recent momentum for each of these teams. We follow that momentum in a pitching mismatch while taking back a huge price on the run line, based on winning situations that are 93% and 88%.

On August 1st, I penned an Article in which I listed the LA Angels as the biggest American League towel-tosser for the remainder of the season. Tonight, they enter this contest with Seattle on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped their record to 49-69.  In that 11-game span, the Angels have allowed the opposition to score 73 runs or 6.5 RPG. In the last 8 contests combined, the Angels have plated only 17 total runs, little more than an average of 2 per game. That is the epitome of a towel-tosser!  Aside from their inept production at the plate, pitching has been a downfall for the Angels the entire season. Today’s starter, Chacin, is simply a Band-Aid and figures to be long gone by the end of the season.

The Seattle Mariners continued to flash BUY signs throughout the months of June and July. At long last, they have begun to reach their potential. Their current streak is 11-2 which has led them to a 63-54 record, on a 3-game winning streak. This has pulled them to within 2 games of Boston for the 2nd Wild Card position. In their continuing ascent in the AL West, they trail Texas by only 4 games in the loss column for the division lead.

The current form of each of tonight’s starters is clearly in favor of the visiting Mariners. Miranda made a recent start against Boston, in which he worked 6 IP, allowing just 2 runs against the big bats of the Red Sox. For the Angels, Chacin has been a huge disappointment as a replacement starter. In 19 appearances since joining the Angels, Chacin is 2-6 with a 6.00 ERA. This includes his most recent outing, in which he lasted just 1 1/3 IP while allowing 7 runs and 9 baserunners vs. Cleveland. This has continued a downward trend.

But, the real money to be made in this super-surger vs. towel-tosser comes on the run line. I am well aware that the Angels’ most recent 2 losses have each been by exactly 1 run. Yet, the long-term records far belie the recent anomaly. For, 28 of 30 Angels’ home losses (93%) and 14 of 16 (88%) recent LA losses have each been by 2 or more runs. This game has super-surger vs. towel-tosser blowout written all over it!  I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the Seattle Mariners tonight.
