After another perfect day riding the Yankees, we're 12-2 in our last 14 games. Now, we start a new week and look for a repeat performance, so here are your MLB Picks of the Day.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Detroit Tigers
It's quite obvious that the odds makers in this game are giving the 25-19 Philadelphia Phillies no respect as they have a better record than the 21-22 Detroit Tigers and the Phillies are only listed at -104  betting odds. Let's also add in that the Phillies are sending Vince Velasquez, who has been very successful this season at 5-1 with a 2.42 ERA and he's opposed by veteran Mike Pelfrey (0-4 ,5.49 ERA) who has been a disaster to the start of the season. Philadelphia should be a much bigger betting favorite, but the Tigers have a group of hitters that can match up with anyone and regardless of record, that will scare any pitcher.

Dertroit is coming of a big 9-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Commerica Park. In this game, Miguel Cabrera went a perfect 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI and Victor Martinez was 2 for 5 with a home run, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. This is a very deep baseball team as you have 4 hitters hitting .313 -.340 , led by Nick Castellanos and Castellanos hits 5th in this lineup that they're so strong.

He's Back
I'm talking about the best hitter in baseball in the last decade in Miguel Cabrera. For the last couple of seasons it almost looked like Miggy was tailing off a bit, but this is a lifetime .321 hitter with 417 career home run and he's only 33 years old. This season, Cabrera got off to a really slow start, but has managed to get his batting average up to .315. In the month of May, Cabrera has been red hot, hitting .370 with 5 HR and 14 RBI. My one concern is that his status is list as "day to day" with an ailment and if Cabrera doesn't play, that breaks up the chemistry and production that the Tigers possess.

Being that we don't know if Cabrera is playing, we'll keep this a 1 unit pick as we're playing with house money and the odds are virtually even. Take the Tigers at home.

New York Mets at Washington Nationals
Now folks, I don't think that, but ever since Bartolo Colon (3-3, 3.75 ERA) hit his first home run of his career, he's been getting a lot of press at almost 43 years of age. Colon has managed to remain in the Mets star-studded pitching staff by simply grinding out each start and staying consistent. With Matt Harvey pitching so poorly, Colon becomes even that much more important to the Mets.

Tonight, he has a real challenge as he faces the likes of Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, and Daniel Murphy, who has started this season off better than he could ever have expected. The Mets are coming off of a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, but their offense was somewhat weak and they'll be playing in Washington's house.

Daniel Murphy
I never thought that I would say this as I thought that Daniel Murphy took the money after his tremendous home run spree in the playoffs for the Mets last season and would flop, but Murphy has earned every penny this season thus far. He already embarassed the Mets by going deep at CitiField and is outplaying his replacement, Neil Walker, as Murph is hitting .387 with 6 HR, 28 RBI, and 14 doubles.

Murphy has always been a .280 hitter for his entire Mets career and would provide the Mets with around 12 home runs in a season, but since last season's post-season, he's an entirely different player and has been the Nats best player by far. That's saying something when the Nationals have one of the best hitters in baseball in Bryce Harper.

"The Natural"
Speaking of Bryce Harper, his numbers don't compare to Mike Trout's as he's hitting .260 with 11 HR and 30 RBI, but the one statistic that really matters is on base percentage. Opposing pitchers are afraid to pitch to Harper and he has a .451 OBP% and that speaks volumes. A free pass is as good as a base hit.

I look for the Nationals to play well against Colon at home. Colon is coming off of 2 consecutive losses in which he couldn't make it past the 5th inning and he also possesses a 4.81 ERA on the road. Washington is the pick in this matchup.
