A couple of All-Star hurlers are pitted against one another tonight in Cleveland where Corey Kluber and the Indians are big favorites on the MLB odds against the Detroit Tigers.

Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Indians

The downside to Michael Fullmer and Corey Kluber starting Sunday’s finale between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians is we won’t see either in Tuesday’s All-Star game. The upside is we get an All-Star pitching matchup in ESPN’s prime-time broadcast (8 PM ET), Cleveland a pronounced favorite around -200 with 8 for the total.

Cleveland opened the series with an easy 11-2 rout of the Tigers, Bookmaker closing the Indians on a huge -240 chalk line. They followed that up with a 4-0 whitewashing of the Tigers on Saturday, marking just the second time this year the Indians won three straight at home and taking a 6-5 lead in the season series over Detroit. The five games at Progressive Field have gone 3-2 O/U in the totals column.

Kluber 5-1, 2.60 ERA At Home In 2017

Fulmer is closing out a solid first half of the season that only adds to coming off an AL Rookie of the Year award. He’s the mound future in Detroit, with the Tigers now thinking about building their rotation around him instead of Justin Verlander, Saturday’s tough-luck loser despite only allowing one run. Fulmer has gone 8+ the last two times out and delivered as -175 and -230 chalk on the MLB odds, It’s his first go at the Indians this season, and he struggled against them in four starts last year (1-2, 6.98 ERA).

Kluber has also gone eight innings each of his last two times out but didn’t get any support this past Tuesday when the Indians fell to the Padres, 1-0. His 10-K performance marked his 5th-straight game with double-digit strikeouts, and seventh time in the last nine starts to whiff at least 10. The 31-year-old has faced the Tigers twice this season, going up against Verlander each time, and managed to split those two decisions despite allowing 11 earned runs in 9.1 innings. Miguel Cabrera has feasted on Kluber offerings over the years, batting .423 against the Cleveland ace with six long balls.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Ryan Blakney has made friends with ‘under’ bettors and anyone betting the visitors when he has the plate. Totals have run 2-8-1 O/U/P for the 3rd-year arbiter in 2017, visiting teams also cashing eight times (3-0 as underdogs). Blakney has been under the mask just once before in Cleveland, an ‘under’ winner that went against the Indians.

All systems go on the weather front with clear skies, temps in the mid-70s and a light SW breeze (out to center). I’m going to grab Fulmer and the Motown Cats for my free baseball pick in this final game before the All-Star break.
