As Texas continues to lead, Mariners are fighting to get to the wildcard. Today they meet in Texas with two very solid Japanese right-handers on the mound and we have the MLB pick for this matchup.

Seattle Mariners
Hisashi Iwakuma gets the start for Seattle and comes in with a 3.81 ERA and 1.27 whip but a 4.04 ERA on the road this season. Probably what is most surprising about his road statistics is that batters are hitting .281 against him which does not bode well for him today versus a Texas team that can flat out hit. However, in his four appearances versus the Rangers this season he has pitched well allowing just nine earned runs in 25 innings for 3.24 ERA. On top of that though is the fact that Texas has garnered 25 hits in those 25 innings and are hitting .263 against him so it seems the low ERA is him being more fortunate than dominating.

Familiarity could be an issue for him today as Texas gets see him for the fifth time this season which will be the most out of any team that Iwakuma has faced. Considering his overall numbers on the road combined with this fact I expect for the Rangers to have a lot of quality at-bats today in Arlington. At the plate, although Seattle struggled yesterday and recently have not been hitting the ball well averaging just around three runs per game in their last six contests this a good spot for them to break out. In their one opportunity, this season they did have a bit of success versus Darvish and I expect them to be able to score today.

Texas Rangers
Yu Darvish takes the mound for Texas with a 2.91 ERA and 1.11 whip as the Rangers have won the last four times he has taken the mound. Since coming back from injury in mid July he has been good allowing just 16 runs in his eight appearances. Still, I think he will have trouble today shutting out a Seattle team that is not only good but due for a good day at the plate. Recently he has been hot and cold and in his last start, he really struggled with his command. I expect him to probably be a little sharper as far as that aspect goes but to not get out of this contest unscathed.

At the plate, the Rangers have one of the better lineups in the major leagues and despite recently where they struggled a couple games versus the Indians offensively they also broke out to score nine and seven runs against them and their four-game series. They are not an easy team to hold down in the numbers and at home, all of their statistics jump up significantly like averaging 4.21 runs on the road to 5.15 at home, as well as hitting just .248 on the road compared to .276 at home.

Seattle Mariners vs Texas Rangers
Odds makers have come out with the total for this game at 8.5 across the board with a bit of higher juice on the over. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back over the total of 8.5 like at Pinnacle sports -115. Although I'm not a big fan of paying higher juice I believe this a good spot for two good offensive teams to have a lot of nice quality bats today to get as well over this total.
