The Washington Nationals have been one of the best teams in baseball this season. Today they take on the Texas Rangers for an interleague matchup at home and we’re going to take a look to see if there’s any plus money value in fading one of the best teams in baseball.

Texas Rangers

Andrew Cashner takes the mound for Texas and comes in with a 3.39 ERA and 1.42 whip and is coming off one of his worst performances of the season. In his last start versus Houston, one of the better hitting teams in baseball, he allowed five earned runs off 11 hits in just six innings. Although I don’t expect him to come in and hold down Washington to a lot of zeros I do expect him to pitch at least decently enough to give Texas a better than okay chance to win this game.

At the plate, Texas ranks in about the middle the league in most offensive categories highlighted by averaging 4.75 runs per game which rank 12th in the major leagues. What I like about them though is that they are one of the more clutch teams in baseball as they rank first in the least amount of runners left in scoring position. It makes sense for them to be the underdog today but I think that is pretty good value on going ahead and taking a shot with them on the plus money line.

Washington Nationals

Tanner Roark gets the start for Washington and comes in with a 3.95 ERA and 1.23 whip. He has been hot and cold this season pitching some stellar games so far but also getting knocked around a bit in a few. On four occasions so far this season he’s allowed four runs or more and surprisingly his numbers go up a little bit at home where he has a 4.04 ERA and batters hitting .248 against him. Washington has been one of the better hitting teams in all of baseball and rank in the top three in most offensive categories. There is a lot to like in this lineup from the top the bottom and I imagine they will be able to put up a few runs today. Still, this is about the value and for me, I really believe Texas has a decent chance to win this game so I will grab them on the plus money line.

Oddsmakers have set Texas at around the +160 underdog across the board and for my MLB pick, I will back them in this spot. Although it makes sense for Washington to be a decent favorite in this matchup I think is pretty good value on taking a shot with Texas to steal this first game of their series.
